my dod had puppies 8 weeks ago. We still have one puppy left and she does still suckle from her mum but as she is now on solid food it isn't very oftern. My dog is still very protective over the puppy and happily feeds her. I have tried discouragung this but it is difficult. My dog has lost some hair around her rear end and obviously still has sagging boobs. Will she start to get back to normal or will she have to wait until she is seperated from her puppy. She is healthy and happy with no problems. We are thinking of keeping the puppy. Her pregnancy was an accedent and she will be spayed as soon as she is back to normal.

When my dog had puppies, the one who was kept wouldn't leave her alone - he was eating plenty of solid food, but just fancied some 'mummy-time'. It will just peter out as the pup gets bigger and more active, just give it a little time and mummy dog will be her old self.

I'd wait until she's stopped suckling before speying her though, as she'll have a wound that she won't want a puppy stomping on. I left it a bit later, and was worried that the pup was going to be a bit boisterous after her op, but he seemed to sense she wasn't in the mood for a carry-on. Half-way between season's is the safest time to get her speyed.

What won't go back to normal is the change in dynamics with having two dogs. I would get the little 'un trained as soon as possible and try and give mum some attention on her own - if she is used to getting a run about, I'd do this without the pup too, to avoid over-exercising her.

My pup is now 4 years old, and very much still a pup! The two of them together weigh about the same as me and if they both decide to go somewhere on the leads, we're going that way. They are both lively and fairly intelligent, and tend to egg each other on, taking full advantage of out-numbering me. While I can cope with them, life would be a lot easier if a bit more obedience was instilled while the pup was little. So be the leader of your new pack now!

Hope this helps,

Mairi

if you think about it all the other dogs where homed so they aren't with mum so taking her to the vets now will give you some one on one time with your new puppy as the other dog is away and hopefully make it more independant the pup suckling is keeping mums milk supply going as well so a break will stop this.Sounds like your dog is good health but maybe still tired due to the puppy still seeking attention and still feeding from her.

She will get back to normal in a few weeks after the puppy stops nursing. If you are planning to keep the puppy, there is really no need to wean it for another week or two.
You will need to call the vet, to learn when you should get your puppy its vaccinations.

Normal in what way? Her teats may continue to hang, just like ours do. She will eventually stop letting him nurse. You might want to check with the vet about the loss of hair. That could be an allergy. And congratulations, hallelujah, and kudos on having her spayed!!!

Get her spayed now. I would have done it 2 weeks ago with all the puppies.

she'll be fine. we had 3 litters. my momma ran from our puppies when it was time to eat. but towards the last litter she was so attached to one of her puppies i never would of though. we ended up keeping this puppy, i couldnt tare them apart. it took us awhile to get her not to suck on the mom, but after ahile we gave her treats, human food and canned food. and the puppy decided she liked that more than mom. now i cant keep them away from each other. they always want to play even mom acts like a puppy again. it just takes time. she knows that is her baby and just wants to make sure that she is there. she is spoiling the baby. just like we would when we have kids. it takes time to settle. everyones excited.

with a proper diet and plenty of excercise your dog will be back to normal after a couple of months. I wouldnt advise breeding her everytime she comes into heat. skip at least one cycle in between breedings and dont feed her food that is formulated for pregnant and lactating bitches after the pups are weaned

separate them to discourage the suckling and give mom time for her teats to dry up. start exercising mom and feed a premium dog food CANIDAE is excellent. and don't forget to SPAY HER SOON as if this pup is a male he will imprenate her soon enough GEESH don't you take bob barkers advise to have your pet spayed and neutered?
