ok some of you may have noticed in my answers that my husky pup count went from 4 to 3 and now I'm down to only 2. Let me explain..I had two sets of brothers and sisters..I took the two brothers in to the vet on day for routine visit and thier shots..it's easier on me to take them in pairs since they are getting larger. Visit was fine..took them home and a couple of days later they started acting sick so I took them back to the vet..They caught parvo from the vets office...i was so mad..The vet gave me the option of buying the meds from them and treating them at home and thats what I did to make them more comfortable..sadly my two boys ended up dying. A week after that I took the girls for their shots and one of the girls ended up getting mange from the vets office. he told me that it would cost a couple hundred dollars to fix and it wasnt certain that it would worked..I'm switching Vets..i bought Happy Jack kennel dip from a feed store in town to treat the mange

the pup is doing great with the happy jack and its clearing up..before we left the vet he mentioned getting them on heartworm protection..should I go ahead with that or wait till the new vet and have them retested and go from there? If i do go ahead with that where can I get the heartworm medicine from?

Don't use the dip reatment on the puppy. Depending on its age, it can be so dangerous. Call around to see which vets will sell Revolution, as it safely treats mange mites.(only $13) and prevents heartworm.
If it was only a few days after going to the vet, your pups did not get Parvo from the vet office. The normal incubation period (time from exposure to the virus to the time when signs of disease appear) is from 7-14 days.> http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&articleid=467
Puppies most commonly get Parvo from bird droppings, or flies, coming from another home with Parvo.

I say wait for the next vet to get the heart worm medican. MOst vet offices will have it there.
And vet offices with that many problems (now talking about the last office) need to be reported. Call the humane society or Health Inspector and tell them that the office is unclean and is dangering the animals even MORE by being there. The office will simply get a routine check and if they find problems they'll make them clean the office and fix all the problems. It's safer for all the other animals if the vet office is imspected and cleaned.
As for your puppies sorry about the loss. And I'de say take those puppies to the new vet (once you've found it if you already didn't) and get them checked there. If he also thinks that the pups should have some heart worm meds then they'll probably have some there. If they don't I buy mine online. You should put heartworm meds on your dog every month (unless the meds say other wise) and also I do heartworm, Tick, fleas, and Misquito all at once. You can buy them so there all the same on (weither there a pill or you put there ointment on the dogs upper back near the neck) you can usually buy them all in one, or get one for heartworm and one for ticks, fleas, and misquitos. I have to say, most people don't get the Tick, flea, and Misquito cause they think why bother. but my dogs used to get them all the time and lately you have to be VERY carefull with misquitos about westnow.

Happens all the time. Sick dogs go to the vet. Easiest place for you to catch something is the Dr office too
Go ahead and get the preventative. Don't play with that. The treatment for Heartworm is much worse than mange or parvo.

OKay well i'm glad you decided to bring them to another vet! thats so sad how all that happened! the mama dog must be so sad! :( but really i would call some lawyers in your area to see if there is anything they can do to help with that situation because not one dog died but 2 did and one is very ill! common now what are these vets doing and they tell you you have pay money to fix it when you brought them to their office? No way! If that ever happened to my pup Jacey who's 17 weeks now (maybe a little older or younger give or take) i would kill the vet seriously! she's like my little girl! i love her to death even tho she's a little pain in the rare but i love her! def check into that! good luck and hope the puppy gets better!

Pups older than 6 weeks are usually meant to be on on heartworm prevention treatment for the rest of their natural lives. Heartworm is an ugly thing.
It is best to give them monthly prevention as well. I am against the yearly shots many vets recommend as I believe dosing your pet with a heaps of chemical in on go is not a good thing for them.
By the way, if you are looking for a well priced excellent heartwom prevention for your pet try this Australian product at
www.nuheart.com
My two 16 year old pets are on it.

I would go with a new vet. No respected vet that is certified will have this amount of problems (ie getting manged in the vet office).
The two and a half years I have been with my vet I have never had any problems with my dog catching anything in their office or my vet being negligent in their care. Even when they have to give my dog shots they bring in a nurse to give proper restraint to the animal. In fact they even offer a site where you can go and rate them and offer comments/advice. The manager of the vet (perhaps owner) office is even on-site so you can go and talk/complain to them.
If I was in your shoes I would sue them because I feel that I have a case. I would discuss this with council. I would sue for negligence for one, emotional distress (your dogs dying for their negligence), and whatever else I can get them on. I would also seek a new more responsible vet to take care of my dogs as well as recheck their health @ the new location. Good luck and sorry for your losses.

I think the incubation period for the parvo virus is greater than the animals exposure in the vet's office. Is that dip recommended for puppies? I suggest reading the directions in detail. I would change vets.

oh my god, sue your vet. he sounds like he doesnt have a clean office for the animals. he can get in alot of trouble for other animals catching other animals sickness. i would wait for another vet's opinion. my vet said my boy pit bull had mange. but just on his private area? come on. i took him to another vet. and guess what he doesnt even have mange. he had a rash. and the new vet said that i could get the other one in touble for causing a mistake. it would of cost me hundreds. instead 50 bucks. got to petsmart. they have a hospital and they well make you a customer and take you in like a vets office. and the heartworm pills you can get them yourself at petsmart, they have a medicines section, they even have stuff for mange. but for sure never got back to that vet again. what will happen next time?

Oh my God! Never go back to that vet again! It sounds like it's not a sanitary place for animal procedures and it also sounds like he's running a very nasty scam. They are getting your dogs sick (and dying) and then they have the gall to charge you for it? They should be reported or investigated by the SPCA in your area.
