What's your view on the universe, do you not believe we are merely objects or robots?

I'm just trying to understand how most people think. There are many 'religious' Materialists out there. I mean, people that follow a religion but put more value on materialistic 'truesures'. Consciousness is good, but i seek a higher consciousness and i have tasted it and that is why materialism seems 'stupid' to me.

Life is life which does have a special quality. We are conscious and think so I don't know that I completely agree with your characterization. At least I wouldn't word it that way. I think that consciousness is wonderful and I highly recommend it.

If you mean do I think that there is anything terribly special like a soul-then no I don't. We die and we are dead--gone forever.

You can get into a whole other discussion if you want to know could we move our consciousness into a machine. Because we are getting to where the computing power will be there in 20 years if it is possible. I have heard it advocated that this might be the ticket to immortality. That one I honestly don't know. I think we can, but that is really a guess.

During a theological detour, I figured out that atheism and materialism don't necessarily go hand in hand. There are naturalist theologians who aren't materialists, H.N. Wieman, for example.

I believe we are animals. I'm sure that there are many atheists who are not materialists--the only thing we have in common is a disbelief in any deity.

Zero. If you don't think that everything in the world is the result of material interactions, then you believe in supernatural, so you are not an atheist.
