Sterility and birth defects. Depends on the amount of direct exposure and the duration.

Another effect of radiation exposure is sterility. Radiation exposure may lead to a reduction of cell division in the testes of the male or a loss of fertile eggs in the ovaries of the female.

An acute dose of to the gonads of the adult male induces a temporary sterility (but not impotence) that may last a few months. An acute gonad dose of to either sex would induce permanent sterility . Of course, this is a consideration only for a local exposure because a whole-body dose of this magnitude would be lethal.

Radiation can have a terrible effect on a man's ability to have children. How severe the effect will be depends on:
1. the type of radiation he will be exposed to
2. what type of protective gear he wears (PPE)
3. how long the actual exposure lasts.
This man needs to speak to someone where he will work, to get these questions answered BEFORE he starts working.
Radiation can cause all sorts of health problems.
