One of the greatest mysteries of life.....

Cows do not necessarily lie down if it's raining. this is an old myth. The reason cows lie down, is to chew the cud. A cow has two stomaches. When they grass, the devour their food fast without digesting it. This food in it's undigested state goes into the first stomach. When they have filed this stomach, they then lie down to regurgitate this food, which is then passed into the second stomach. Then the process starts all over again.

This method of predicting rain has been in use for centuries.
A common joke in farm country was for a caller to ask the local radio station which was adjacent to a GOAT farm; if the goats were laying down or feeding.
People had come to rely on what the 'Goat For cast' was for their daily chores. Highly accurate at that!
