The Iraqis are stepping up as much as they can. Many have been hedging their bets with the militias because they are afraid we're going to leave. Anyone who is known to have cooperated with the US will be killed if we were to leave.
All of us armchair quarterbacks can guess at the game plan all day long, but no one will know if it will make a difference until it's done. Hindsight is almost always 20/20.
Our troops are always under pressure, but they handle it like the professionals that they are. The US Armed Services of today is the greatest military to have ever walked this Earth, so have a little faith.

Hi ice,
I want to give you my answer because I'm following this difficult situation since three years from Italy.
I think that American troops have been always engaged in first line in this conflict and the possibility to come back should be seen as a gift for the good job they did in order to establish a new peace and equal rights for everybody in Iraq.
However at the moment we mustn't close our eyes in front of a civil war so a stronger engagement should be required. But not only from US , I hope that the rest of Europe (my country especially) will take action immediately with diplomacy and concrete aids in Iraqi context.
I must tell my deepest opinion. I really hope that in the name of all soldiers losses of this war , our efforts of Americans and Italians together, haven't been done in vain.
And this is an aspect that I want to share with you all .
Thanks.
Bye.
Simon (from Milan - Italy).

This is like saying that the Japanese, Germans and Koreans should have taken more respsonsibility for removing influeneces that were taking over their countries. We said that to the Vietnamese and look what happened. Wouldn't it be nice to have a Japan with Hirohito still in charge or a Korea with the Chinese Communits in charge or better yet the entire peninsula with Kim Il Sun in control?
In a previous post I was told it was not the same thing. We were attacked in WWII. Germany never attacked us. Japan did. By that reasoning the war with Japan was legal but with Germany it wasn't. The same with Korea.

Lots of opinions without any ideas or basis in reality!
Ever consider that the US is responsible for the creation in whole or at least in part of most of the democracies in the world?
We are one of the oldest Governments on this planet! We have seen Germany, England, Japan, Philippines, Mexico, France(Twice), Italy, Sa'udi, Israel, Iraq(Twice), and so many more get set up and on there way that we are the Parent!
I'd say what is going on with the Ahmadinejads and Chavezes is spoiled little brats just trying to step out on their own and trying to get some Independence without regard to the true nature of their need to still get support!
We should throw them out of the house, but then we will just wind up having to post bail when they screw up on their own!

I believe that an increase in troops will HELP the issue, not solve it. The Iraqis will have to want change and be bold enough to step to the plate and do it themselves. If not...we all will have some more very serious issues to deal with.

Due to the violence i support an increase. BUT also, i think the iraqis should definitley step up. They said by the end of the year of 2007 that they will have total control and we will be there as a support mechanism.

And where does your military expertise come from?
Or should you shut up and let the professionals make this sort of decision?

Maybe, maybe not. Will pulling all of them out at once solve it?
