The word "Islam" is an Arabic word which means "submission to the will of God". This word comes from the same root as the Arabic word "salam", which means "peace". As such, the religion of Islam teaches that in order to achieve true peace of mind and surety of heart, one must submit to God and live according to His Divinely revealed Law. The most important truth that God revealed to mankind is that there is nothing divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Almighty God, thus all human beings should submit to Him.

Islam teaches that true happiness can only being obtained by living a life full of God-consciousness and being satisfied with what God has given us. Additionally, true "freedom" is freedom from being controlled by our base human desires and being ruled by man-made ideologies. This stands in stark contrast to the view of many people in the modern world, who consider "freedom" to be the ability to satisfy all of their desires without inhibition.

I don't know of any religion that claims to be for anything other than peace. Furthermore, according to their strict teachings, all religions I have ever come across teach tolerance and peace, etc.

The problems come in when followers of any of these given religions start perverting the religion for their own personal gains. Islam is not the first to have people do this.

And finally as to the person who said that "Any religion that thinks they are right and everyone else is wrong" (or words to that effect) can anyone show me a religion that says anything other than that? (Well, Unitarianism maybe...) But on the whole there aren't many religions who say "We might be right, or we might put you on a path to hell. Take a chance and follow us!"

Islam is a religion of Peace and Justice, but the dictators in the arab world and the extremists abuse the religion of islam by forcing their harsh beliefs, so they could gain power.

Islam is based on the teaching of the Quran and the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), the teachings are peaceful, thus Islam is a religion of peace.

All religions are religions of peace it is how we choose to interperet the meaning that makes the problems and unfortunately this will always be the case. There is also the fact that many people decide that their religious choices and lifestyles are the only way and decide converting everyone else to their view is the way or that they are better than everyone else who hasn't chosen their way.

Ive read some of this answers and i have to say, iv's never come across so many ignorant people before. There is nothing wrong with Islam, Judaism or Christianity. The religion/faith is pure. Its the people that corrupt it. There is nothing that you wont find a answer for in islam. Lets say for argument sake....a jewish or christian person hijacks a plane. Is it the religion???? Common people stop being so shallow.

It is not the religion, but the people. Christians have fought very bloody wars amongst themselves and against others in God's pretense, but they matured up and now convey a rather peaceful facade of Christianity. Same thing applies to Islam. Is someone is has a distorted mind, he or she can revert to religion and will surely be able to find some verses that will seem to fit the bill, Scholars have a great responsiblity in their interpretation of the religion in order to convey a peaceful and constructive message to the followers.

Yes Islam means Peace.........

You have to look at the history.

Middle East was in the hands of Muslims for thousands of years but still there are Christians living there. No one force them to convert.

India was ruled by muslims for 400 years. Did they convert them to Islam. If they had to, all the people in Middle East and India would be Muslims now

Even in Iran, there are Jews living there for 300 million years, but no one force them to convert to Islam.... Islam is the religion of Peace and History shows it all

I'm not going to read all that conditioner. Just what looks like a question.

No. Further - that's all it is. ' A ' - religion. A set of empty forms with nothing back of them. A false gospel. Like any other religion but the true one. Which of course is nowhere in sight. Predictably.
