Not too sure where this comes from, other than words that describe the parts of man. Actually the sequence is confused, it should be Soul (or Spirit), Mind and Body, if you were to put it in order of importance.
Here are some definitions for you which may help:

The Spirit or Soul
This is described as having no mass, no wave-length,no energy and no time or location in space except by consideration or postulate.
The spirit is not a "thing". It is the "creator" of things.
The usual residence of the soul, (spirit, awareness of awareness unit....YOU) is in the skull or near the body.
YOU are your own immortal soul.
The soul can be in one of four conditions.
1. Entirely separate from a body or bodies.
2. Near a body and knowingly controlling the body.
3. In the body (the skull).
4. An inverted condition, compulsively away from the body and unable to approach it.

There are degrees of each of the above 4 conditions.
The most optimum of these from the standpoint of man, is the second.

The Mind
This is a communication and control system between the spirit and it's (his) environment.
The mind is a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities and interactions of the spirit with the Physical Universe and other spirits/individuals.
These activities include the operating of a body and the solving
of problems related to survival and existence.
The mind has 2 Parts:
The Analytical Mind. The keynote of this mind is awareness. One knows what one is concluding and knows what one is doing.
The Reactive Mind. This is a stimulus response mechanism.
This mind acts below the level of consciousness. It never stops operating unlike the Analytical Mind which can be less aware or even completely unconscious.

The Body
A carbon/oxygen engine. This can best be studied in such books as "Grey's Anatomy" and other anatomical texts.

Your mind or intelligence has always existed, at some point you received a spirit from the "Father of spirits", then you received a mortal body from earthly parents to house the spirit and intelligence. Eventually, you die, the spirit and intelligence are separated from the body. Eventually the spirit and intelligence will be reunited with the body (raised and perfected of course, otherwise it would be yucky). Then judgement, then you go somewhere.

Well in truth we each have seven bodies. The physical body is only one of our bodies. It is the most dense of the bodies. We also have an 'astral body',.. an 'emotional body', ..an 'etheric body',.. a 'mental body',...a 'causal body',... a 'spiritual body'.

The nature of consciousness is that it is in essense or source, Divine light. The manifestation of creation is a result of consciousness breaking itself down into a spectrum of vibratory frequencies that each vibrate at different rates of speed. .. It is like when you shoot a beam of sunlight through a prism and the beam breaks up into the colors of a rainbow. Each one of those colors seen in the light spectrum are different rates of frequency which are all a part of the same beam of light.

So it is with your consciousness. .... You are a stream of consciousness that is exhisting on a number of different vibratory frequencies. ... Most of those frequencies are vibrating fast enough that they are invisible to the human eye that is not sensitive or aware enough to see them. ..... The process of attaining true enlightenment,.. is really the harmonisation of all of your frequencies/bodies into a oneness that is unified and balanced. ... The result is an expansion of consciousness and a transendance of disharmony and disease. .... The average individual in the world however is completely unaware of this potential in human evolution that lies awaiting within themselves. Modern humanity still believes that enlightenment or what has been referred to as "Nirvana" or "Cosmic Consciousness",...is nothing but a fantasy,.. when in truth,.. it is the next stage in human evolution. It is ultimately the purpose of this life.

..... I would have to disagree with the previous poster who stated that the soul and the spirit are the same thing. The spirit is the source that is consciousness itself. It is the god of your being,.. which is always connected to the one true SELF that is God.
...The soul is that aspect of you that carries the memory of your individual experience. It is that which determines your individual character, qualities and incarnational cycles.
