True? No. Still believed? Not exactly. Greek paganism originally portrayed the gods as super-human immortals living on mount Olympus. Over time, Greek paganism was heavily influenced by philosopher like Plato, and became a monotheistic system in which the One God manifested itself through verious attributes that were personified as individual deities. As Christianity grew in popularity, Greek paganism gradually disappeared. This wasn't because the Christians persecuted pagans into submission (as some people think), but because Christianity was a well-ordered sythesis of all pre-existing Greek "Mystery Religions," and was better suited to the Hellenistic mind. However, Greek paganism existed well into the modern era. At the council of Ferrara-Florence in the 15th century Orthodox Christians from Constantinople brought a Greek Pagan with them as the greatest known expert on Plato.

Many of the ancient Greek myths were probably based on historical events. Unlike many religions, Greek mythology used real places and events.

In recent decades Greek paganism has been revived by the Neo-Pagan movement, and it should be easy to find communities of modern believers, if that is your thing.

The Greek Mythology figures are idols. As far as religion was concerned, there was a time when that was the norm in Greece and other areas.Idolatry was normal practice until God started showing his might and wrath. Then, when Jesus came, everything changed.

Greek mythology was a religion. The gods and godesses in the stories were actually worshiped, prayed to, and honored. It's called pagenism, and it existed for thousands of years before modern christianity was even thought of, and pagenism still exists today. Jesus turned water to wine, and fed thousands of people on like two loaves of bread and a fish. Every religion has its stories.

They were true for the people who believed in them. I'm a Christian and I like those stories too. In fact I like to study them. I don't believe in them, but they are a big part of history.

There are still Hawaiians who worship Pele and Kane, as well as a plethora of other gods.

So yes, it is a real religion. Yes, there are people that believe. As for truth???? Some truth, some lie. That is my opinion.

I'm sure there are some Wiccans and Pagans who follow the Greek pantheon. I personally align myself with the Welsh pantheon.

So yes, people really do believe in that, and it can really be true.

No, mythology is not a real religion, but it values and institutions are associated with religions.

Simply believing something does not make it a religion, pookie!
Toothe fairy, for example.
"How the elephant got its trunk" for another.
Myths are stories which embody values.
