i have receieved a lot of helpful answers. as i stated earlier...i will probably just let it be.

however...i do live upstairs, and last year, when the first egg arrived, i was really sad when i saw it had gone "splat" downstairs.

then when the next one appeared, i tried moving it to a bush at the foot of the stairs, but the peahen kept coming back looking for it. i felt bad again, because she thought someone stolen it. so i replaced it to the mat, and saw that it went "splat" again. i was sad about it, but figured "at least she knew what happened."

so now...if i choose to leave the current egg...how can i help mommy not to abort it?

Maybe you should consider moving your mat to the bottom of the stairs, since the peahen has taken a bit of a liking to it.

Then you could buy another mat for your front door.

could place it in a small shallow box on the mat so she can retrieve it? she may not want it though once it has human scent on it. or bunch up some cotton wool and place it in the middle these ideas might stop it rolling away or getting knocked. Although how would she get it down the stairs again anyway? sorry I don't know how big/small these eggs are. Maybe you could look in to how peacocks nests are built and get some suitable materials and leave it around for them in the gardens and they can build proper nests! I dunno really just grabbing at straws!

why don't u invite one into ur home?
they might make a better companion than ur ex ????
LOL!!!

u could try putting a box over it with a hole cut in the side or with one side missing to give it some protection.

splat??
