I'm in a group of 6 and we're planning on getting Ocean View Staterooms near one another. We're all in our late 20s. We found 2 groups of rooms. One group is near the front of the ship, and one is near the back. The front group is close to the elevators and the back group is a little further away from the elevators.

Is it better to be at the back of the boat or the front? Does it matter? Better to be close to the elevators (less walking) or far from the elevators (less noise)?

Just looking for people's opinions...THANKS!

The ship is the Carnival Glory.

I've sailed Princess, Royal Caribbean, Carnival ships and they are all basically similar in layout. The formal dining rooms are in the front of the ship around 5th or 6th deck. Casual dining, breakfast, lunch buffet areas are usually at the top decks, 12 to 15 towards the back of the ship.
Spas and Gym are front of the ships on the highest deck. Pools are around deck 12 to 15 as well (depending on what ship you cruise)

If anyone gets sea sick, you want to middle of the ship in the middle deck. least movement.

As far as noise, you want to avoid usually decks 4 to 7 because that is where most public areas are. Go up to 8th or 9th deck to avoid noise from clubs and bars but not too far up, so that you can avoid crowd noise from the pool decks.

I would stick around 9th or 10th deck if you can, toward the front of the ship.

Before booking, check the cruiselines' website and check on your ship's layout, to see where your room is. It's good to stay away from public areas, bars, clubs, and also don't be near the ELEVATORS/Stairs. Lot of traffic noise. you may have to walk a little further to get to the elevators but well worth the little extra walk to avoid the noise.

Good luck, and no matter where in the ship you are, you will have fun.

If there is a chance someone in your group might get sea sick, middle, bottom is the best spot. Check the floorplans of the ship, because being below or above a nightclub or bar could be nosy. On our last cruise we were on the bottom floor, near the back, the only time the motor was loud was when the boat was docking at the ports.
There should be multiple elevators, check on that. We were very close to an elevator, and sometimes you can hear those few loud people who have no consideration for others. But it wasn't terrible.

Front or back probably doesn't matter a whole lot. I've been at the back of the boat on top of the engine and didn't hear a thing, nor any waves. They say if there are waves, try to get a cabin in the middle of the ship.

I'd suggest though, away from the elevators because of the noise of all the people at all times of the night. But heck, you're in your twenties...you'll be one of the noisy ones getting back at two a.m.! :) Have fun!

theres no noise so dont even worry about that...i was just on carnival imagination this xmas

our room was in the middle/backish...i've been told its more shakey in the front but im not that sure and also the higher level your cabin is the more you'll feel the swaying of the ship

and trust me.....walking wont be an issue at alll

have fun!

Depends on the ship. On most ships the spa and gym are in the front and the buffet is in the rear.

The newer ships are so long, that it is better to be near the elevator.

If you can tell me what ship and what deck, I can define it better.

Closest to the center is the best. Less Rocking motion

As for your choice, you will havce to determing if the crowd noise from being close to the elevators is worth not having to walk as far. And visa Versa

The middle of the ship is the most stable. The Promenade deck is going to give you a smooth ride. There will be noise on the Promenade, though. You might go one level higher. I don't like to go too high because of the motion of the ship.

The front will be further away from the engines and quieter.
