I propose that Stansted takes some beating?

Frazier: have you tried transfering through Heathrow, land at terminal 4 a transfer to terminal 1, it's a nightmare. Or security terminal 1; 500 people queuing for 2 x-ray machines fir ecomony travel, but no queue in bussiness class and the same number of x-ray machines!! Generally i would say BAA have lost the plot.
Luton, travelled from there last week and thougt it had been refurbished pretty well.
Stansted: bloody mess, imigration a joke and baggage retrevial never less than a hour wait.

You're right about Heathrow. Frankly, It's an embarrassment for the UK when someone comes over for the first time and sees the pits that Heathrow is. I dont know about Stansted.
Birmingham, Manchester and Aberdeen are good.

Heathrow, bad? I have never had a bad experience at Heathrow airport. I have always got there on time, got the car parked easily. Been checked in quickly and efficiently, found the staff to be very helpful and obliging, the facilities exellent, the food tasty, the coffee even better, and it's a great place for people-watching.

I even went to Luton a couple of months back and found it fine.

Let's be honest Tricky, our views on these thing are solely down to our personal experience. I've travelled a fair bit and in my experience Heathrow is far and away the best run airport in the world. (No I don't work there and nor do any of my family)

Because it is also the busiest airport in the world, problem when they do occur are significant, as with the terror alert before Christmas.

Generally, most UK airports have good reputations amongst international; travellers. If you want to be picky...The only questionable thing about UK airports is the catering provision. Generally expensive and not of very good quality.

The other country that can be regarded as somewhat expert in running airports is of course the US. They just have so many of them!!..But again...generally very well run. The only criticism of them tends to be they are not so good at providing passenger information. But as I say...that's just being picky.

Heathrow isn't that bad. I found it to be quite good actually. Travel to other major airports around the world and you'll find that Heathrow is pretty decent.

LAX in Los Angeles is usually a nightmare.

Edinburgh is a bit of a hovel. For a major Scottish airport, there is a lack of good shops and restaurants to keep people occupied while they wait for their flight.
