my grandchildren(who are in my care) have decided that it would be nice to go camping this summer -- we have bought a tent and all the equipment ready to go to dorset but i'm terrified of mice! can they still get into modern tents? i don't want to spoil the kids fun but i'm really worried it will be their first holiday for years and they are really looking forward to it

Unfortanatly, those smelly rodents have been able to find thier way into just about everything and anything now a days. So to answer your question, yes, they probably could. But, the odds of it happening are very, very slim. I really wouldnt worry about it, I have been camping with, and without a tent many times, and have never had any encounters with mice. it's the mosqitos you have to worry about ;) So bring plenty of Off insect spray, make sure all your food is locked up and secure, and go have fun with your grandbabies!! Camping has always left me with the best memories of my grandpa, god rest his soul.

A lot of modern tents have an inner portion of the tent that when zipped closed joins the upper portion of the tent to the base.

Your tent may be like this and if it has no holes or gaps near the floor level then it is very unlikely that a mouse will enter.

They might chew through the tent but I doubt it. They will be too busy clearing up someone elses scraps to bother with you, unless of course you are made of cheese!

I hope this helps.

If history has taught us anything, it is that mice can get into anything!! However, I've never had trouble with mice on camping trips. Be sure not to have open food in the tent and take a cat along.

If they can get into houses they must be able to get into tents .I should think you are just as likely to meet one in your home as you are in your tent.I have never encountered any whilst camping .but have had them about 4 times in 60 years in a house.Sleep off the ground in a camp bed it you are worried ..Why ever would a mouse want to hang around in a noisy tent when its got all the countryside to live in.? I think a mouse visit would be very unlikely especially if you keep all food products out of temptation. Its not you it wants to visit but your larder.Relax and have fun you'll love it.

I have been camping all my life. A few times each year for about 37 years. I've never had ANYTHING but flies and mosquitoes get into a tent and that was my fault for not zipping up all the way.

Yes, they can, but unless you are running an hotel for mice I wouldn't worry. Can't say I have ever had a mouse in the tent with me.

Yes. They can chew through stuff or they can just walk in if you walk out. Will they? Probably not. I haven't ever had a mouse anywhere where I was camping. It's a kinda weird fear (no offense). I would be more worried about all the bugs. There will be TONS of bugs, no matter what time of year.

I'm sure it's POSSIBLE, but it's not necessarily a problem you hear about all the time. Yeah, you're outside, but as long as you don't camp next to a cornfield, I don't think it should be a huge problem. The chances are so slim. You should just go and enjoy yourself. Try not to worry so much!

The most important thing you can do is not to attract them. that means no food, toothpaste, or other good smelling items should be brought into the tent. They will not bother if they think there is nothing to east in there.

They are the rulers of the universe, it's only right they can go where they want.

I don't think you'll get much bother from mice anyway, their hands are too small to open the zips and if they did I don't think they'd hurt you.

Just do your zips up tight.
