Dogs are social animals. One of the ways they communucate is by vocalization. Fire truck sirens evidently sound like howls or whines to them on some level. They respond with their own communications until I tell them to knock it off or until they learn that I'm going to be really P.O.ed at them if they start howling.

its something that occurs with most dogs. its like a response type of thing. my Yorkie doesn't do this i think he barks more like he smells the emergency lol google : why do dogs howl at sirens and how to stop it.

The shrill noise hurts your dogs ears. Also, the sound may agitate your dog.

it really , really hurts there ears. its like turning your radio on with the volum up all the way and playing some kind of rock music while you are trying to sleep X^O ...
