i mean i had this 20 year old guy in my house today and he was waring a celtic top, and all he went on about was how great celtic is, but what i found funny was he never seen celtic play live, he could not even name a current celtic player(well apart from sum japanese guy) and there is 1000's like him and the teams they seem to support are the old firm, they walk about the streets with there old firm tops but they have no idea, i would not even call them part time supporters, it make's me sick not for the fact that they chose to call themselfs old firm fans but for the fact that they call themselfs football fans, i would be embarresed if i was a old firm fan that these people even accociated with my club, what are your thoughts

a supporter supports the team....at different levels..i have been away from the country for a long time so i cant go to every game..
I know what you mean.....some guys will support a different team as soon as their one loses but then again there are guys WHO have supported teams for fifty years without going to a game...and don't forget...it ain't cheap....and there is a difference between fanatic (fan) and supporter

I WOULD SUGGEST THAT A REAL FOOTBALL SUPPORTER IS SOMEONE WHO IS PREPARED TO FOLLOW HIS/HER TEAM THROUGH THICK AND THIN. I support Southampton and have done for nearly 60 years, through thick and thin. I have also watched lots of teams from all levels of the game. Ibrox, Hamden Park, Anfield, Old Trafford, Elland Road, Highbury, Plough lane, Loftus Road, Gigg Lane and many more grounds have received my money without my team as opponents. I appreciate good football no matter who is playing. I have visited "The Den" in our colours and at the wrong end as a guest of two Millwall supporters. Non league games can be very entertaining and often you can see an up and coming late starter before he is found by a bigger club. Football as the great "Shanks" once said is more than life. He was right then and is still right today. Football when played with enjoyment can be seen as the perfect game.
A TRUE FOOTBALL SUPPORTER DOES NOT HAVE TO FOLLOW ANY ONE TEAM. HE FOLLOWS FOOTBALL AS THE BE ALL AND END ALL OF LIFE. WITHOUT UPSETTING HER INDOORS TOO OFTEN, I HOPE.

A true supporter would be someone who has a real passion for the club he supports. It doesn't have to be their local team, although that's always a plus, and it also doesn't have to be a smaller team, it can be a bigger one too. A true fan is just a fan who knows the team and players (not personally) and will stick with them through thick and thin, no matter the situation. People obviously will have their own definitions of a true fan, and mine might not match that of others, but I just think a true fan is someone who is loyal.

Istanbull, 25th May 2005. 3-0 down to the mighty AC Milan after being ripped apart in the 1st half. A true supporter is having the belief and pride to stay and watch the 2nd half.

i am a man utd fan living in the midlands and not originating from manchester i have seen them play at ot and wembley but not as much as i would like and have also been labelled as a glory grabber for this but i have followed them for 22 years since i was 10 and we were not winning too much in those days but there are people out there who support a club and are proud owners of other teams shirts who they play every season which i think is just as bad as your celtic fan

I would call myself a real footballer supporter. I never miss a home game hail, rain or shine. But, it does not necessarily mean that those who don't, or cannot attend matches are any less of a supporter than I. A real football supporter is a lover of football from grass roots to the highest level. It takes all sorts, and that's why we all love it.

I think a supporter should be someone who goes to the games to actually 'support' their team come rain or shine. And to support their team whether they win or lose. Forever...

a real supporter is someone who is passionate about their team, their love for their team never changes whether they are winning or losing. it doesn't matter if you have never seen them live as long as you know what is going on in your team.
be faithful and never change just because they losing.
