No, not at all...! I think the parents should be held accountable.. when I drop my children off at school I see several incredibly overweight children and it always makes me sad that parents let their children gain that much weight... ~Princess~

No, they should be educated about healthy eating and encouraged to take up a sport or other calorie burning activity. I was chubby when I entered high school but 2 weeks of band camp and the weight just melted off from all the marching.
Surgery should be a last resort for adults who have become so obese they can't even get up to exercise. We shouldn't be teaching a generation of children that it's better to undergo radical life-treatening surgery than getting up off the couch and riding a bike for half an hour a day!

surgery on children who suffer from obesity is a waste of time, punishing, ignorant, and lacking in care.
On the other hand if a child is obeses for other reasons than overeating then surgery can be a productive excercise depending on the child.
obesity with children who overeat the treatment which helps usually gets stimulated by the childs willingness to accept help such as counselling because many parents are emotionally unavailable , and the child grows up with fear, and shame.
After all children who overeat are eating to find some form of comfort.
the food is only a sympton, and the child could unfortunately find themselves using other things apart from food, i e alohol drugs sex gambling.
Surgery has been sold to us as a means of a cure ,and surgery takes away the extra kilos but does not take away the symptoms I am afraid to say. sso generally speaking surgery is no good.
imagine a alcoholic, and if you take alcohol away from the planet, the alcoholic is unable to drink alcohol, but the symptoms will manifest in other ways..
i hope this helps you.

I don't think that it should be used as a quick solution, only as a last resort.
I think the government should definately force schools to teach children about healthy eating and exercise. I know they have P.E. and cookery, but for me those lessons were pointless. They should actually tell the children what can happen if you do get obese and show them how to cook healthy food. P.E. should be made more fun too.
But I think in extreme cases, when all else has failed; then yes, some children should have the surgery. They should be told about the risks before they have it, to try and scare them into losing weight by themselves. And should be given support by a dietician.
Because most obese children, will carry on and become obese adults and die in their forties. They need to be stopped, before it's too late.

No, obese children should not be offered surgery. The parents should be held accountable. If they are responsible parents they should not let their children eat that much. Nowadays parents claim they don't have time for family meals and the kids end up having take out and junk food for dinner. Another problem is that the kids have no self contol and maybe that's why they eat so much.

Depends on the situation. However the parents are the ones who really need to be fixed. They can't even teach and control their children! They are the ones who let the child get to the point where it needs obesity surgery.

Abolutely not, that is an horrndous thought. Surgery is serious stuff, not a quick cure. It would only be considered by someone who was ignorant of the risks.
Obesity is a major risk factor in anaesthesia and a major impairment in recovery and recuperation.
Hospital beds are need for more deserving cases than kids whose parents dont feed them properly, or teenagers that lack the self control to decide what to put in their mouths.
IMHO.

Michael ..parents should never be ashamed of their children. most kids have eating problems because they have emotional problems to deal with , many have poor home lives or don't have friends and sometimes food is their only friend, i am a nurse working with secondary school kids. it is not a simple solution and quite frankly i could spend all day typing about it but i don't want to bore you all. some kids have surgery because it is the last resort and its that or DIE, they should get if it is the last resort but a lot of counselling goes along side it. Michael i am sorry but you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that!

No, absolutely not. They are kids who should not be focusing on their weight and how they look. They need to focus on their school books and home work. If anything there parents should just cut back a little or do some fun outdoors activities but no surgery.

NO no no!!! That operation is no joke. My friend nearly died having that operation. She had the operation a long time ago and still has runny stomach. I am amazed that anyone could even suggest such a thing. A lot of kids are chubby when they are small but grow up thin. I would never ever allow my child [ if i had one at home now ] to have that op.

No, but the children and their parents should be obliged to attend special clinics on a regular basis, where, as a family, they will receive advice and the children will be monitored. If they don't attend, or don't improve their eating habits, they should then be obliged to pay for private healthcare.
