You can ask but I don't think you will get it. Your doctor is the clinician and knows which drugs are best. If prozac was the right one, you would already be on it.

If you don't feel your current meds are doing the trick, then it's ok to ask for a change. If Prozac(Fluoxetine) works for you it's really very good and has far fewer side-effects than some of the other options. It's also relatively cheap, which means that most GPs are happy to give it a try.
whatever treatment you get, I hope you're feeling better soon- for most people depression is just a short phase, so have faith that you'll get through it, ok?

Maybe your doc knows best? Prozac may help some people in some situations, but you don't know how the ingredients work, so how do you know that is the best thing for you.

Combatting depression isn't just about popping pills, it's about looking at your thought processes and how they affect your behaviour, and trying to change those as well.

You could ask the doctor for Prozac - & then you could get so addicted to Prozac you won't feel able to come off it. Then you would feel that the current dose isn't enough & you would want to take more. It's not an adviseable solution.

You need to see your doctor again, there are different types of anti-depressants and your doctor needs to try you on a different type, could be prozac or another type, the doctor should know which one should suit.

You could try talking to your doctor, instead of asking for it but i know Prozac are very additive and have more side affects, and hard to get off
so you may want to get more facts or try some thing different first

You can ask you rdoctor if there is anything better because the current meds you are on are not working. And if he says no, threaten him with a second opinion... Tell him you are planning on going to see another doctor to see what he says, really go do it to cause he might actually be better and listen to what you have to say instead of just thinking your a pill junkie..

Ask him. Different anti depressants work better than others for some people. You may need a change.
