Tie your skates tightly so that your ankles won't flop. Look up when you're on ice and try walking on ice to gain your balance first before trying to glide. Just relax and have fun! Don't be to worried about falling because everyone falls and it is no big deal after a while. Good luck!

Wear mittens or gloves (your hands will be on the ice quite a bit).
Stay near the boards - I think by instinct you will anyways.
Lace your skates TIGHT. Skates should almost hurt they are lace up so tight! This gives you good ankle support.
Be prepared to feel like you are making a fool of yourself! But don't worry, everybody out there went through the same thing. Nobody snickers at beginners, even if they are adults!

Well when you first get on the ice, you may fall a few times, I know I did. but if you have ever roller skated just do the same things you do when you roller skate. I learned to ice skate before I learned how to roller skate. I just did the same thing I did when I first learned how to ice skate. They are pretty much the same except the fact that they can only be used at different seasons.

hey, just get out there and have fun. I went skating for the first time not too long ago, and I didn't fall once. If you have ever rollerbladed before then it will be pretty easy. I found out, though, that you have to lift your feet a little higher than normal. And one other thing, don't try any fancy stuff, just have fun and skate. Good luck

When you fall and you will fall, make a fist when land on the ice immediately because you don't want to type with 9 fingers do ya? It is better for a skate to hit a balled up hand on accident vs one of those nubbies sticking it out cause it will be gone in a heart beat.

Don't try to be a hero! Know your limits. Obviously if you have never been skating before, you just want to master gliding about the rink with out falling. Use a side to side pushing motion rather than trying to "walk". Go slow and bend your knees! You will be great!

Just stay close to the wall, that will help you if you fall. Wear warm clothes! Also, remember to alternate feet when pushing, you will go in circles and look kinda funny if you don't!
Just a reminder: Most rinks have walkers for you to use, so you can keep your balance.
Just have fun!

Well, you should try to stay close to the edge of the sides so you do not fall as much. You should try to wear gloves so the ice is not cold on your hands. Good Luck!!!!

I would suggest going with a friend, duh, cause it's less embarassing, but I also would suggest to bend your knees. Trust me, everyone looks like a fool at first, so all you have to do is laugh when you fall down, and get back up again. Everyone there has been a first-timer on ice... they'll understand.
