Whenever you feel down and depressed, do something nice for someone else. It doesnt have to be anything huge. For example, give someone a cup of coffee, help an old lady take out her garbage, or whatever strikes your fancy. The smile and relief on that person's face will always help lift your spirits and make you feel on top of the world. It could even be as small as complimenting someone on something. Believe me, you'll find it works wonders.

it always amazes me that people still believe that depression is a choice. that if you think possitively it will go away. i remember being one of those people...thinking that a person was selfish...that if they quit thinking only of their own problems and thought about others, they would be okay. if only it were that simple. i understand what you are saying, about feeling guilty for the time wasted. that there are people who have worse problems in the world.....etc...etc.. but you are not selfish...not crazy...not weak of mind. depression is not a choice, you can not will your way out of it. it is a medical condition that comes from a lowered amount of the chemical saratonin being released into your brain. this can cause real physical pain, tiredness, sadness, aches in joints and many other real side effects...the worse being an overwhelming need to end the hurt, not feel guilty anymore, sadly suicide. i do not know where in these symptoms you are at, but i have suffered like you and i understand. i now take the medication Effexor after trying several others i did not like...i'm so much better, i feel like a new person. like my old confident cocky self. if you don't have insurance try your local health department, i was in between jobs and that's where i first went. i got the med's free through them and it took alot of the pressure of taking the medication off of me when i didn't feel like more of a burden of having to pay for them. you will be in my thoughts and prayers..there's hope...you can contact me if you need to...today's a new day..you are not alone:)

I think it's strange that so many people think you can cure depression by doing good deeds or taking a walk.If a person was sick with cancer would they give the same advice ?
You need to get to the root of why you feel guilty all the time.It may be time to check in with a professional? Talk therapy combine with meds can be a Godsend.
I wish you the best.

The biggest cause of depression is from inertia, which means without movement. In easy terms it is thought that depression is caused by lack of movement and one becoming stagnate. If you force yourself to get up and move, your body will create "feel good" chemicals in the brain, which are called endorphins. These chemicals that your own body produces, versus man made chemicals, can fight off depression naturally. Attitude is a very impt role also. Choose to be happy and have a positive attitude about life. Well, what are ya waiting for? Log off of your computer and beat the blues by moving and exercising. It does not have to be strenuous, as you will not enjoy it, turn on some old tunes and dance alone right there in your living room or go for a brisk walk. Channel in new spirit and a new positive attitude. Good things are sure to come, my friend!

Surround yourself with things that make you happy, be it flowers, music, or art, whatever makes you happy. I love Jeff Kashiwa's Simple Truth CD, because it is so uplifting, and cheerful, whenever I have a case of the blues. Make your home your paradise getaway, to escape the pressures of work that drag you down. Find solace in music, art, or the great outdoors. By simply taking deep breaths of fresh air, you can restore your mind. I work out of doors, in the elements, and love the sense of freedom it gives me, plus the Zen effect of being "one " with nature. I do hope that my advise serves you well, and that you will find some peace of mind with it. If all of this should fail, I do recommend you see your MD, for a depression work-up, and some options that are right for you. Best Regards! :)

Try some vitamins, eating a healthier diet and excercise. Maybe also talking to a friend or writing all of your problems down in a journal can help.

Sometimes we become so overwhelmed with everything we have to do that we can't do anything! When you get to that point, (which it appears you are there) you need professional counseling. Please contact a professional immediately.
