The universe may not turn out to be infinite. I don't think anybody knows that. I think that Einstein made that statement out of frustration. And I am sure that someone of his intellectual magnitude would have been highly frustrated most of his life.

Nothing material can be infinite. There is a finite number of atoms in the universe, which represent the total mass of the universe.
