I love children and at parties people ask me if I could watch their grandchildren or children, because they trust me. I know this is my calling. I'm great with children. Where should I start? What should I do? I want childhood development as my career, I don't want to be a babysitter. I have two of my own. I want to wait till they are in school before I start. I've known since I was little this was my calling to work with children

That is so great!

Start looking now at colleges, and try looking into degree programs related to working with children. You could do early childhood development, elementary education..and the list goes on! Some onlince degree programs at universities like The Univeristy of Phoenix could provide you with the ability to stay at home and get a college degree.

I know you said you don't want to be a babysitter...but have you considered looking into requirements to being a day care provider? I'm sure your state government website could offer you information as to what certifications are required to open one. I know a few mothers who have done this, and its a great way to earn a living while still being able to "stay at home" with your own children.

Good luck!!

Well, you might not like my answer, but I do agree with you that you are called to work with children. How do I know? Because you have two of your own, and you are definetly called to nurture, train, teach, love, inspire, and encourage them.

Anything you can do to learn how to be a better parent is fantastic and will help you to excel in your role as Mom. BUT for now, I would suggest focusing on your two precious little ones and store up all you will learn in your "on the job training".

There are certainly courses you can take that will benefit your own parenting and of course could lead to something professionaly in the future, but I would strongly recommend you taking the time now to concentrate on your own children while they are small. This is only a season and believe me, it FLIES by. There will plenty of time to pursue education when they are older.

Sounds to me like you have already answered your question. Start by researching the different careers that center around children to see what interests you most. We need more people who love kids to fill positions like: doctors, pediatric nurses, pre-school teachers, school teachers, dietitians, just to name a few.

Go for it! 'Cause if you love what you're doing, work won't really be work.

I once had a college professor who told me to be careful and make sure that you don't make the mistake of taking something you love and making it your college major. It can still be a side thing that you love and not something you make a career out of.
