Hi there... wet food sometimes can contribute to bad breath, however when a cat exhibits bad breath it could be a result of either periodontal, kidney, respiratory or liver disease to diabetes, skin disease (involving tissue around the lips) or oral trauma, such as electric cord injury. However, by far, the most common problem associated with bad breath is periodontal disease. All which will require a veterinarian's evaluation to treat respectively.

I used to think the cat toothbrush idea was silly, as my kittens' teeth are sparkling white and clean. I give them Greenies once a day as a treat and it seems to help. Still, I have noticed lately that my female kitten will try to scrape her teeth on my fingernails when she is rubbing up against me. So, I'll get a cat toothbrush and try it. I would be concerned about your cats' diet, if it is not a dental problem (which you can get checked by the vet). You might try to switch to Wellness brand dry and wet food. They contain no corn fillers and are high in protein. Your cats will naturally eat what they need and not be too fat or thin (provided they don't have parasites).

My first order of business would be to call the vet. You can ask before making appointment and she/he may even have an explanation for you after asking you several questions about your cat's behavior and habits. Her brother not being afflicted with the same problem could be indication that something is awry. Don't get worked up over it, though. It could just as easily be nothing. Talk to your vet and see what advice they can give you or take her in for an appointment. Take care! :)

There are many causes for bad breath in cats that range from simple bacteria to dental disease to felv/fiv to kidney issues. I recommend a vet visit to be sure and to rule out more serious things while she's still young. You're vet will be able to help. Good Luck! :o)

The food you are using would be the main source. Especially if you're using wet food.
You don't need to bring her to a vet so much as maybe speak to one about what foods you should be buying.
I use Nutro and Royal Canin. My kitties breath is fine.
