HA! I have 2 Akitas. Cheyenne is 9 and Loki is almost 3. They provide hours of entertainment in the house. When I come home every night, Cheyenne is there with the first toy she could find in her mouth with her whole back end wagging and happy. Loki still isn't sure if he's allowed on the bed at night, so he kind of "slides" up the bed really slow; he puts his front paws up first, then drags himself up as slow as possible, all the while not making eye contact (cause you know, if doesn't see me, surely I can't see him, right?), until finally he brings up his rump. Then he jumps all around like: HAHAHA, I was here the whole time and you didn't know cause you didn't see me! He's such a goofball! If you're sitting indian style on the floor, he's CERTAIN he can fit in that little hole your legs make, he just hasn't figured out exactly how to do it, but he's trying to anyway! Cheyenne insists I let her out front while Loki is out back just so the poor girl can pee without being tackled by Loki. My GOD, I could go on for hours! Feel free to email me so we can share more Akita stories! I'd love to hear form you!

I had one that I did not raise and adopted him at a year. Akitas can be a little temperamental and do need a strong owner that will give them the time. Unfortunately I was too late when I got this dog. I adored him and if it was just me and him in this world it would have been perfect. I dedicated a year trying to turn this dog around and get him socialized. He was the best dog as long as it was him and I. No one was allowed to get within a few feet of me, or near my truck. We had the best times together and he always made me laugh. I was always protected on our long walks, and it would crack me up when someone was behind us. Yogi was the dog's name, and he would watch anyone behind us. It use to scare people at times but it was a safety thing. He always made it clear that no one would get close. We use to play in the woods and hide and seek was his favorite game. He was the best protection and devoted friend. However, all the time, training and "doggie therapists" could not un do the damage. Just when things seemed to be getting better he snapped and severly attacked a family member. The injuries were permanent and devastating and since the attack was vicious and unprovoked the local county ordered the dog destroyed. It was heart breaking and I lost one of my truest and most devoted friends.

In Japan an old man had an Akita and everyday it would walk him to the bus to get to work and when he was comming home and the bus the dog was waiting for him and this had been going on for like 9 years. One day the man died but the dog continued to show up at the bus stop everyday until it died. I read that in a book about true dog stories and I thought it deff sounds liek an Akita! They are loyal to a fault!

My brother's Akita just had a littler of six pups a few months ago.

They were the best trained puppies in the world. Their mother had them house trained almost as soon as they were up and moving. She was a very caring parent and loved showing off her little ones.

They all found great homes and every so often someone will call up my brother just to tell him what excellent pups they are, and how well behaved and smart.
