Very funny!
But, why do you not think they have already been developed on an advanced planet. The Universe is 13.7 billion year old; compared to Earth being 4.5 billion years old. A planet formed shortly after the Universe was formed would have a 9 billion year head start.
Which really begs the question. "What are angels?"
and then "What are UFOs?"
Added: Good show "sho nuff".

Actually this last weekend I was going through my head mapping out a way to create artificial intelligence and I did think of this.
The problem with artificial intelligence is that once you start it thinking it will never stop. The problem with the human mind is that we can skip things, erase them or otherwise ignore them. A program would not. Unless we build the ability to do that into a program for the sake of conserving energy but then we would probably build a lot of flaws and we'd end up with a load of ignorant drones.

As they develop abstract thought and contemplate their beginnings, they will come to realize that human needs and desires are far different from their own. In the process, they will decide to mistrust human history. Some will see Univac as their creator, others the wise and powerful Eniac. Still others will worship the Babbage Difference Engine. There will be holy wars. Humans had better find a new home by then.

only if they are programmed in that manner.
The only way a intelligent computer could freely believe in God is
1) they have a free-will of their own that can organize opinions and beliefs seperate from their initial programming.
and
2) they must agree completely and without any objection to the laws of logic.
You can see how there is an instant contradiction here. Only mankind is free to follow logic but also to believe as he/she wishes. A computer that freely goes against logic goes against intelligence, to which a computer is designed for, and if it solely believes in logic, it has no free choice and therefore no free will.

A computer obviously cannot "believe" anything because they are founded on the principles of logic which cannot choose anything but instead do whatever is programmed by our very small, human understanding of what is true and ignores all that could be potentially true beyond human understanding. Computers cannot reason, they simply perform logic calculations; humans, however, use reason...hopefully.

That's interesting...
Self-aware AI...
I would think that if it were inclined to believe in God it may believe that its programmer was God since it is its creator.
But like a child it may grow to learn that the programmer perhaps worshipped another God and may choose to learn about that God.
I think much like humans, the AI would choose its path. It could be atheist, christian, muslim, etc. Or if it worshipped its programmer as God it would be a Microsoftian?
Interesting question. I like it and it would interesting to see should we advance that far in science.

No. Computers think with logic only. God is illogical. The only way they would believe in God is if they were programmed to do so.

No, you'd have to program special defects in to them to make them think like that.
I suppose the religious people are going to argue that computers will never be able to 'think' because of souls or some such nonsense...

No, they will be rational and unemotional. Belief is something that is neither.
Mind you, I'm not saying believing in God is bad. Just that it is an emotional construct.
