Because God doesn't believe in himself?

You first need to address what the author meant by "image". It certainly wasn't physical image or level of understanding. Before answering this question we need some idea of what "image" implies. Is it emotions? Maybe. If so, then it is completely in line with the atheists decision to not choose God out of their faith that he does not exist.

Perhaps the real answer is that God is loosing faith in Himself. This is also why I prefer the Buddhist teaching that we are all God on a path to perfect our own expression of divinity. If this has some truth in it, then Atheists are another expression of divinity loosing the attitude of being divine and thinking of Himself as 'normal' or average. God is no longer looked upon as greater than the individual expression and now the individual can choose freely what to define himself as.

we were all created in the image of God- however it is that thing called free will that causes people to believe or not to believe. Just because we were created in the image of God does not necessarily mean we believe in Him, even though I do. God is not a puppeteer and we are not his puppets. He made us to have a relationship with Him, man sinned- God loves us anyway, so sent His Son.

We tend to look like our ancestors. We weren't created. We're the product of generations of genes fighting to survive. One obvious argument AGAINST a creator is the fact that there are so many folks runnin' round with corrupted files and genetic anomalies.

Logically, since God is the Supreme Being, God has no higher power to believe in. Therefore, being created in the "image" of God does not require faith in God.

people choose not to believe in God because they do not want to have to be held accountable for their behavior on this earth. God gave us freedom of choice knowing that there would people who would not choose him as a way of showing the believers that he doesn't lie. but also so that bellievers will have a choice to pray for the nonbelievers and not hate or judge them, as this is not his will either. people would rather make themselves ignorant of God then answer to him when their time comes. its sad.

Image is different than thought. We were given the gift of cognitive reasoning...people are able to make decisions based on a number of variables...even hold stereotypical beliefs.

how do you know we're made in Gods image without seeing God himself? you dont, you just have faith. atheists however have faith (based on science and what we as humans can piece together) that Evolution created us in this image, and not God.

its just down to what different people believe.

God's image----we look like him (kinda). This means he doens't look like something we won't recognize. And he gave us the freedom of choice. Freedom of choice in his image---he didn't FORCE people to believe in him.

if there really is only one God, then God would have no other Gods to believe in, so is God an atheist?
