Without an exam, it's hard to tell. He could be throwing up because of hairballs, because of his food, intestinal distress....
He could be licking himself more because he has an infection or a blockage and it's irritating him. He'll need a trip to the doctor to find out for sure.

Get him to a vet. Cats are very fragile and can take a turn for the worst in no time flat. Prime example...My cat was fine at 4:30 when I got home from work and at 5:15 I was on my way to the vet where they had to put her to sleep. It's better to be safe than sorry. Get an appointment as soon as possible. Good luck!

It could be a myriad of things and only a vet can really tell. I agree with others that it could be anything from hairballs to an infection in the urine. My cat was 14 when he started to vomit all the time and it turned out to be cancer on his tongue and throat, something common in older cats, of which your cat is not, but you should have him checked out to rule out the more serious issues.

I hope your kitty gets to feeling better.

First of all, you should have your cat neutered!! To keep the pet population down. The throwing up in from him cleaning his fur and he probably has a furball. You need to feed him some furball treats or get some medicine from your vet and while you are there getting that, GET HIM NEUTERED!!!
