but i don't know how to start!

please give me some advice, i have to work full time.

is there a special course/qualification i need to get.

is it just case of getting trained on the job?

i need to get out of this office!!!! i will go mad if i cant do something creative with my life!!

I don't think framing is the haven you think it is. Framing is a craft that, if you are particularly passionate about, you might be able to elevate to art form. But framing involves treating the artwork of others, and usually they pick the frame, too. So all you will be doing is measuring, cutting and setting.

However, if you truly want to pursue framing as a career, start by working in an art store like Aaron Brothers, or Jerry's Artarama, or a small independently owned local framer (avoid Michaels and JoAnn, they're the Wal-Marts of craft supplies). Learn your craft on the job. I don't know what the pay is like, but as with most start-overs, expect to start low and work your way up.

I was trained on the job. I worked for Light Impressions as a mat cutter, then was trained to do dry and cold mounting, framing and glass cutting. I second the response of starting at the base by working at an art store that offers framing and is willing to train you.
