Give it to her anyway, or just put out some milk, that would be good too and its more natural and dogs are clever, if she dont need it, she wont drink it!!

I have a German Shepard too, she is soooooooo lovely. I love her to bits!! sorz but i just had to say that from one animal to another.

Goodluck with the pups!! xx takecare x

Yes, by all means give your German Shepherd Mum the pet cal. Your vet recommended it so this means she needs the extra calcium to keep her healthy and her pups too.

I would not give her milk as it can cause loose or runny stools for her. This will dehydrate her if she has loose or runny stools and will bring her health down, along with the puppys as they will not get the proper nutrition from her milk.

I used to breed German Shepherds and the nutri cal kept her health up and the pups did very well. I also would add a can of puppy food to her diet each day too.

Hope this helps :-)

mum and pups may be doing well but if you don't take over and feed some of the pups and also get calcium in to ***** she will end up with eclampcia and she could die the ***** i mean you need to get some puppy milk of the vet and take over and feed the pups a few of them so that they are not draning the mother i have got 7 pups here that are 3 weeks old today and was advised by the vet to feed half of them each time the pups needed feed get a syringe and feed them it will tell you on the box how much to give them and only let the ***** feed them all about twice a day if you don't by the time the pups are two weeks old your ***** will end up with eclampcia and will have to have injection of the vet to which she will not be able to feed the pups for at least twenty four hours so get feeding i have feed mine each time just allow mum to feed 4 i feed the others and rite through the nite as well until the pups are at least 3 weeks old i went to bed last nite for the first time in 3 weeks i slept on camp bed by the side of my ***** and her pups its not easy going but worth it in the end all my pups and mother are doing fine you also need to get the ***** to eat well what ever she wont to eat let her have it she should be eating at least five times her normal food and give her milk to drink full cream at that as at this moment it wont hurt her she needs it as much as she can drink but if you dont take over some of the feeding she will still be poorly believe me ive been there with my other ***** and they get rite poorly and i at to get the vet out in the nite as the ***** had passed out on the floor and it cost me £200 pound to get the vet out and give her calcium injection ignore the nasty remarks we all have to live and learn thats what life is all about we cant all be perfect and know everything there is to know we all have to start from the bottom and work are way in life learning by are mistakes but some folks should not be on this earth because they are to good for this world and should move on to the next one well thats what they think good luck with mother and pups

if your vet recommended it, why are you asking on here?
With 10 pups, your ***** is going to be going through a tremendous amount of food very soon, as the puppies start growing. She will give all her reserves to them & if she isn't having the right diet, she is the one who will suffer.
Lack of calcium can cause a condition called eclampsia which, if untreated can kill a nursing ***** within hours. Giving calcium on its own is also dangerous, so if your vet has recommended a product I should listen.

If your vet is recommending it, your dog may need it. 10 is a big litter, and it might reduce the pull of calcium from the mothers body. I have only heard of calcium supplements being dangerous if given during pregnancy.

Do NOT give her milk as dogs can not properly digest it!

Good luck!

When my alsatian had pups that is exactly what we gave her. Her pups grew up huge and strong , nothing wrong with their bones. I suggest you follow the vets advice. Shame poor mummy , 10 pups must be hard work now never mind when they are bigger. Chasing her around for teats. Good luck to you and Mum and the puppies. Rather you than me, they are hard work.
The reason i ask you to follow the vets advice is that my Alsatian has got problems with his back now, poor darling drags his one foot when walking but hell he can run like mad when he spots a cat or a squirrell, you would think he is perfect. Going to kill me having him put to sleep , cannot let him suffer for too long. I will just lie down and die. I love him to pieces. But that is caused by inbreeding. Take care Daddy-o:))

Yes, if your vet recommended it, why would you even ask? My vet always recommended giving the mother vitamins as soon as the pups were born to help her out, too.

Only if the vet recommends it. A calcium supplement can be beneficial, even necessary in some cases, but it can also be harmful if the bi tch already has sufficient.

oh yippee. More GSD to join the 10,000 which end up in rescue EVERY YEAR here in the UK.
No doubt parents not tested for HD, haemophilia, epilepsy, elbow displaysia or leukaemia.
Congratulations on becoming another backyard breeder.
