Does anyone know where you can buy reasonably priced satalite phones for use both within the UK and abroad. It needs to be able to support a pay-as-you-go style payment system and be handhelt, not a suitcase style unit ?

What sought of money would I need to buy one ?

As anyone got an experience with satalite phones ?

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any handheld satellite phone that supports pay as you go. Iridium has prepaid but it will still cost you $50/mo, Globalstar prepaid deducts out $20/mo and Thuraya's satellites only covers Europe and Northern Africa, and their prepaid depletes itself $100/year if you don't use it enough. Inmarsat Mini-M has a plan where you pay nothing a month and you just pay per minute for outgoing calls, but that is a mini briefcase style system about the size of a laptop, including the antenna. They work anywhere in the world except really close to the north and south pole and can be had for around £200 on eBay if you catch one at the right time.
