Same reson people assume the quiet/shy types are arrogant. A lot of people are quick to judge and don't bother getting to know someone before they've already decided that person is kewl, has potential, or is something negative.

Don't bother with those who judge you before knowing you. Although a friendly smile is quite easy and typically gets one in return, there are days we just don't feel like smiling. It's okay to not be (or pretend to be) happy all the time...

Thats funny people used to think that about me and i think i figured it out, a non smiling person can be a sweet heart but at the same time is some what unapproachable. my thing was growing up i had a uni brow (yes ha ha, like bert from sesame street.) so as a young adult i started to pluck, and pluck until i had hardly any eye brows thats when i became the "b****" not because i hardly smiled (witch i did alot) but because there was really no expression to my eyes (windows to the soul) that is the first thing people see and then no smile makes them think negative things...like i wonder what her prob is? who pissed in her cereal? ya know, but yes not smiling is a major neg and tends to give the wrong first impression...But really who cares who wants to mess with a b**** anyways, right? if these poeple wont give you the time of day because of what you look like or seem to be, these are the poeple who really dont deserve your time. Those who have the guts to approach you are worth spending time with...you see what you want to see and only knowing what you see is what really matters. Your friend W.M

Believe it or not, our whole family has the same problem!! We have a look when we're not smiling, that people either think we're mad, or sad... And even get funny looks from people, because of this strong family trait...... dont let it get you down.. Hey , it could even come in handy , for anyone who tries to mess with you down the line, you know what I mean.. Hey smile, girlfriend, and just know your not alone!! Dont worry , Be Happy!! who cares what other people think, anyway, unless you know them!!

I don't know. But people may think that because of your attitude or behavior. Not smiling a lot doesn't always mean someone's nasty. If they think that about you, there's something else, some other vibe that you are giving off that makes people think that about you. Ask a friend what they think. Ask them if they think you give off a negative vibe. (ask someone who's honest enough to tell you real deal). If you are, then try to reevaluate your behavior to present a more inviting aura.

This is what I was told. It is because people perceive you are one, therefore perception is reality. Makes no sense to me. Some places of employment expect you to go around with a stupid clown grin all the time. I actually got fired once for not complying! lol

When you don't return a smile you are considered rude. But if you know you aren't a b**** then don't worry about what other people think.

Normally, friendly people smile. All others, are considered "snobby". Don't know who set the standard.

Not just a b*tch, but a stuck up b*tch! That's what I use to get, despite my overly friendliness! I'd say, people respond better to smiles and happiness. They don't know you, don't let it bother you. I didn't. After they got to know me, they were all like "I though you were this way and that way, but you so aren't!" If they don't care to get to know you and judge you based off what they see, oh well, their loss!

lol - they say that about me all the time. I ignore it.
I'm usually thinking, planning my life.
Those people think their happiness or insecurity is caused by or fixed by the people around them. I do not take the bait.
