Your split ends have been left too long if the splits are already in the middle of the hair. All you can do is keep in trimming it a little at a time until you get to the part of the split at the same time you begin taking care of your hair better.

How to avoid split ends
# STEP 1: Take care not to split them in the first place, because the only cure is a trim
# STEP 2: Don't brush hair when it's wet, because that's when it is at its most vulnerable.
# STEP 3: Cool it on the heat styling tricks. That means cut down on hair dryers, straightening irons, crimpers, curling irons and hot curlers.
# STEP 4: Buy a natural-bristle brush that won't pull on hair and ultimately break it off, thereby causing a possible split end.
# STEP 5: Wear a hat to minimize sun damage.
# STEP 6: Use a shampoo that lists sunscreen as a major ingredient.
# STEP 7: Condition after shampooing, and use a deep conditioner once a month.
# STEP 8: Try a hair split repair product. It won't actually repair the hair, but it will minimize the stray hair look you hate.
# STEP 9: Get a trim every six weeks.
-----------------------
* STEP 1: Keep brushing to a minimum since it promotes breakage. Brushing wet hair is a definite no-no; use a wide-toothed comb when hair is wet.
* STEP 2: Strive for low-maintenance hair. Hair dryers, curling irons, perms and hair colors all damage hair. If you must blow-dry, use a cool setting and keep the dryer 6 inches (15 cm) from your hair.
* STEP 3: Protect your hair from extreme weather. Wear a hat on sunny days and keep hair well moisturized in the dry winter months.
* STEP 4: Apply a leave-in conditioner to the ends of your hair daily to keep them strong.
* STEP 5: Snip away any split ends you spot. Cut at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the split. A split end will split the hair all the way up to the scalp, so snip it as soon as you spot it.

twist small sections the hair from root to end (like a dred lock) then the little peices sticking out you ONLY SNIP THE END OF THOSE PEICES!!!!!! that should help you out inbetween hair cuts! but if its been over 2months without a hair cut just get a trim! good luck

also try to not tie your hair back so tight and use a scrunchie instead of an elastic, sleep with your hair down and buy silk pillow cases so you don't damage anymore of the hair!

I heard of this technique, but I am too scared to try it myself. you take small sections of your hair and twist them, the split ends will stick out, using VERY good hair cutting scissors you snipped those split ends. Look it up on the Internet, i have seen it on a few sites. I personally like my hair too much to take scissors to it, but maybe your stylist would know of this technique and do it for you. GOOD LUCK
