The difference between Vietnam and Iraq is, when pulled out of Vietnam, the war was over. If we pull out of Iraq, the terrorists will just follow us back here. I would much rather keep them occupied in a foreign land than for it to happen here.

War is never a good thing. Sometimes it serves a purpose though. Whether we were right or wrong to invade Iraq is wholly irrelevant at this point. The fact is that we did invade. To pull out without finishing the mission will only be bad for us later. It will embolden the forces of evil in the world and yet again demonstrate that America does not have the will to finish the fight. To pull out would seriously damage our ability to conduct foreign policy on the world stage properly for decades to come and no ally would ever completely trust us again. Iraq is not Vietnam no matter how much the antiwar set wishes it were and tries to paint it as such.

No, we left Vietnam because there was nothing to gain there. I think we should stay in Iraq because we have more to lose if we leave. And the rest of the world will see us as weaklings. And do you want that? For the rest of the world to think that we can't take on a county that doesn't even have a real Army? We'll be the laughting stock of the UN.
PPL who think we should just "cut and run" is only conserned with how the war is affecting them. But they should look at the bigger picture and how it is affecting this country. We need to stay in Iraq because we can't afford to lose this war.

I don't think those are the only choices. Many people believe that even though the war is bad, we now owe it to the Iraqis and the world to finish what we started rather than leave everyone with a bigger mess. Personally, I don't know what to do at this point. It's pretty clear now that going in was a mistake if not an outright crime, and none of the choices we have left are likely to result in a very good outcome.

It's a double-edged sword. We didnt factor in the cultures, attitudes and possible reactions of the Iraqis (well i did, but not the gov.). There is no possible way to "win". Not in 2 years, not in 20.
But we also cant just bail on them. They dont have running water or electricity, because of our bombings. Its not quite right to take a country and bomb it to the ground, leave the people suffering, leave the gov. in limbo and go "whoops, my bad, sorry. We're gonna head out now"

It won't acomplish anything if we pull out too soon. You need to stay in right up to the end in order to get any satisfaction. You will be the happiest if you start to pull out right about the same time you finish.

If we pull out, we will have all out slaughter of Sunnis and Kurds.
This place will become a terrorist haven and we will have more trouble than we did with Saddam. We need to finish this, stabilize it, and then come home.

Gerald Ford is credited with doing the right thing for America and got us out of Viet Nam, that illegal war. Too bad we don't have him now.
