The inhalers and steroids are not helping you. All they are is a substitute for smoking. I feel the same way since quitting. Decongestants do the same thing, make you feel like your lungs are empty and you want to put smoke in them. Get off the meds and use the money for some nicotine gum and drink lots of water. Oh, and DON't sit around inside all the time, go do stuff that will distract your mind.

You haven't said anything about the food you eat. You need good quality food from a well-balanced diet for your immune system to work well. You should also ensure that your home is as free from dust and fungal spores as possible. Do you have any pets? Is your home a little damp? Are there any industrial or agricultural processes taking place near where you live?
It would seem that your doctor is trying to help you treat the symptoms without attempting to find out the cause.
Good for you giving up smoking but you do need to do a bit more home research on other possible causes of your problems.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse
You may have asthma or even an allergy but for gods sake stop taking the antibiotics, this may be part of your problem. Antibiotics destroy your immune system so that your body is open to every passing infection. Get yourself some ECHINACEA and Take GARLIC capsules all year round (odourless) Echinacea is taken in winter months these will boost your immune system. Also aromatherapy oils in your bath help greatly and even a therapeutic massage will help with your respiratory problems

Sounds as though this has gone on far too long. Go back to your doctor and INSIST that you are sent for an urgent x-ray asap. It may be something quite simple, or it couldn be something more serious which needs specialist treatment.

perhaps you stopping smoking has resulted in your chest infections. Take the niQUITines tablets available from pharmacies[without prescription] and superdrug. That has something healthy which replaces all the nasty things in a cigarette. But i think it will work. You should definetely give it a go!

Ask your doctor to test you for Lupus. That is a major symptom. Or it may be that your body was use to the smoking and is withdrawing.
