Global warming is sketchy at best. Below is a link taking you to a NASA chart showing the temperature change from 1880 to 2005. Since 1880 the earth's temperature has risen less than 7/10 of 1 degree C. See for yourself here: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif

There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. The fact that people choose to ignore the facts of these charts shows that they have an agenda to convince the masses of something that really is not happening.

In fact here's a link to a secular scientific article that shows the earth was actually warmer in the past than it is today.
http://www.msu.edu/course/isp/203/raeburn_old/fulltext/class9.pdf

And here's an article from a Harvard University study that says: "Such claims have now been sharply contradicted by the most comprehensive study yet of global temperature over the past 1,000 years. A review of more than 240 scientific studies has shown that today's temperatures are neither the warmest over the past millennium, nor are they producing the most extreme weather - in stark contrast to the claims of the environmentalists.
The review, carried out by a team from Harvard University, examined the findings of studies of so-called "temperature proxies" such as tree rings, ice cores and historical accounts which allow scientists to estimate temperatures prevailing at sites around the world.

The findings prove that the world experienced a Medieval Warm Period between the ninth and 14th centuries with global temperatures significantly higher even than today."

I hope that helps...

See "An Inconvenient Truth". Wonderfully done movie.

I think we are seeing the beginnings now of things to get worse. Ottawa, Canada had a warm Christmas. San Jose, California had a few weeks of unseasonably cold weather.

If we don't change things coastal cities are in jeopardy. Did you see the footage on MSNBC in December of a tourist catching a glacier break? There was a lot of fresh water that was dumped into the ocean from that. The newscaster noted how "pretty" it looked. Pretty damning for global warming....

Update.

The response below from Capnemo is indicative of beliefs that are confounding reality. Of the more than 240 scientific papers on the subject, none dispute global warming ("An Inconvenient Truth). Yet due to very slick efforts by big business and the government more than 50% of the public believe that the studies are inconclusive.

On the Nasa chart. 0.7C or 1.26 Degrees F is quite significant when you consider this is an average over the entire planet - and it is a positive feedback effect -- the more it goes up, the faster it rises and the harder it is to reverse.

On the msu.edu paper. Even that author asserts at the end of the paper the need to reduce CO2 emissions.

On the Harvard study. The paper quoted is a freerepublic blog written by a "science" correspondant and posted by ~princecharles talking about this finding. The real Charles is concerned about the environment. I submit this is actually one of those that is twisting the actual 240+ studies and clouding peoples judgement.

Watch the movie. Read the real papers. Get the truth. We are dumping more CO2 into the atmosphere now than was ever put in even from studies of ice cores going back millions of years. It is a positive feedback affect. The more shielding gas goes into the atmosphere the hotter it gets. The more ice melts at the caps, the less light is reflected and the warmer the ocean gets.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. It won't just be hotter. It will be colder in places. The average will be hotter. Europe is highly likely to experience a rapid ice age. The earth averages the changes by dispersing energy elsewhere. Earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, droughts. Where are you going to go?

in 20 years, i'd be very surprised to see any significant changes, such as coastal cities being submerged- these are stories intended to scare the public into being more efficient.
actually, the short term effects would probably be beneficial to mankind, with more rainfall and more vegetation in areas previously barren and devoid of habitation.
The greenhouse effect has largely been scrapped by Gore and Co., because it presented lush, pleasant prospects for the future- so they abandoned "greenhouse effect" and thought up global warming as a cover all for what will surely be "hellish" conditions like a desert- but in the same paragraph they say that global warming could cause the earth to get colder. well, which is it? now they're changing it to simply "climate change" it sounds like they just want to be "right" whichever way the weather goes.

Quite hot ...lol

What will be most likely to happen? summer vacations will be extended, we'll use more airconditioning and somehow adapt in order to survive - it's an unpleasant thought but i'm not that scared .....

Temperatures will probably be about 7 to 8 degrees higher than what they r now - may be even more since on an average they're increasing 5 degrees in 10 years....

As a result, the polar icecaps will start to melt and coastal areas may get partly submerged....

People will eat more ice creams and the soft drink and dairy industry will benifit....

Hopefully we'll have found a way to harness and use solar power more effectively cutting down our current power bills which could rise more sharply considering the amount of airconditioning we'll be needing

However, there could be cases of uncommon weather phenomena which will cause distress - things such as el nino/la nina, droughts in tropical countries, water shortage - especially in open tanks and wells, and a reduction in groundwater....

and occasionally flooding during monsoons because the amount of evaporation will be a lot and what goes up has to come down....

Convectional rain may become more common in certain areas owing to rapid evaporation

The humidity may reduce as with increase in temperature, the air can hold less water - so climates may become drier....

And people will become more irritable because of the heat ...lol

and use the winter break to sunbathe as the summers will be too harsh....

Tropical weather ( hot & humid) or desert weather (dry & hot)
Why be scared the Earth has gone through many changes
and everything and everyone adapts. We have no choice.
