I didn't meet my Dad till i was almost 20 years old. I'm pushing 40 now. He was going to have my last name legally changed to his last name. He passed away (God rest his soul) b4 he had the chance to get my last named changed. His name is NOT on my birth certificate. How would i go about getting my last name changed to his last name? Will it be expensive?

Go to the local Social Security office, they are the ones you start with for a legal name change. It shouldn't be over $50, if anything. When you get married, the change is free, and this might be a similar circumstance.

Your drivers liscence, and all your other ID's will have to be changed too. Most do not charge a fee either.

The link below is for the government forms to start you off. Good luck.

Its pretty easy. Lots of people change thier names. You can hire a lawyer to help, but a cheaper way is to go to the courthouse and ask what forms you need to fill out to file the petion yourself, then all the cost you would have is court costs, which would be probably under $200.. perhaps way under depending on your state.
