when do the symptoms actually go away? I've been drinking water and cranberry juice non-stop but I still feel like I have to go to the bathroom all the time. It just isn't as painful now...

You need to give an early morning urine spec- men to your Dr., the can tell if you have white cells or blood in it under a microscope, more than likely he will give you an antibiotic that is made especially for UTI's, if it still does not clear up you will another specimen to do a culuture on so they can pinpoint which bacteria is the problem and then will put you on a different abx., or you can request a urine culture right off the bat, but it is more money.

Cranberry juice can actually make it worse. It has acid in there that works against our bladder. Water is the best thing along with your Dr.s RX.

If you get them often or doesn't seem to totally clear up you may have something else that is harder to diagnose cause Dr's always seem to think it is a UTI. Its called IC (Interstitial Cystitis) and has all the symptoms of a UTI.

Just wanted you to be aware if UTIs happen all the time...took me over 7 years to get a diagnoses for this and that is the normal time frame cause the word about IC is not out there

Depends on the cause of the infection. If the symptoms don't clear up after a few days, or if you notice blood in the urine (haematuria), then you need to go see a doctor to give a urine sample and have it cultured. If it's positive for a bacterial infection, then you will need antibiotics to clear it; mostly just for a short time. Water and cranberry juice (to help acidify urine & discourage bacterial growth) can help prevent or clear up mild infections, but if you're having pain then see your doc.

Hope this helps.

To answer your question quite honestly i've just got over having an uti but yes they are painful! I went to the doctoe for the 3rd time concerning the uti's the 3rd time they did a urine culture and i did have some blood in my urine if your uti doesn't clear up within a cpl days go to the doctor i mean that! I waited to long and started having pain in my lower right side of my abdomen come to find out it was my kidneys and that's not good! They had to do a ct scan on me to see what was going on come to find out i have a kidney stone. Don't wait any longer cause it can turn out to be very dangerous to your health.
