There are two meanings to this term:
1) a Christian who takes "The Great Commission" given by Jesus seriously. ("Go forth unto all the nations preaching this gospel .....") This person freely shares his or her Christian faith with others. Emphasis is not placed on "conversions," but on preaching, as Jesus commanded. Once the hearer receives the message, it's up to the Holy Spirit to continue that work on the person.
2) a conservative, orthodox (fundamentalist -- i.e. takes the Bible literally and relies on the concept of "Sola Scriptura") Christian who exhibits the following characteristics: a) evangelizes, but may place too much emphasis on "conversions" instead of simply preaching; b) tend to describe themselves as "Christian Zionists," i.e. have an enduring love and support for Israel and the Jews; and c) not afraid to be politically active, ensuring Christian beliefs and practices aren't eroded.
Yes, I am an evangelical Christian. I fall into group 2, although I emphasize preaching over "conversion."

Hopefully all Christians are evangelical. It means to "spread the good news of the Gospel". All Christians are called to evangelical pursuits.

It means you are a pain in the neck by going around preaching to everyone. Being a total nuisance. Modern Christians today think that in order to be a personal evengalist they must go around trying to convert us all.
They miss the mark because according to the bible and life experience, if a person lives the life the bible demands and leaves everyone alone, but everyone can see that they are different than everyone else, then people will start asking them why there are different and this is what personal evangalism is all about.
Living a blamesless life to the point that people get courious and ask them why they are different. This is the bible example.
But lving what they preach iss too hard, and it is much easier to be a nuisance.

It means pro-actively spreading the word.
I am most definitely NOT evangelical. I spread the word thru my ACTIONS, how I live my life. If anyone is attracted by my integrity and wants to talk I can get into the 'word'
Talk is cheap. always is always was.

Evangelize: = spread the good news of the gospel ie, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And yes, I am. Are you saved?
