Animals die.

Animals have not sinned, so this is not the cause of their death.

Animals were created thousands of years before humans.

Since they died, the answer to your question is "Yes."

First, Pamela V - Gen. 1:28 says Adam and Eve were told to "fill" the earth - NOT replenish it. You have to wait till after Noah got out the ark before any replenishing was required!

Second, Alrod has said what I was going to say - Adam and Eve had to know what death was if God's warning was going to be genuine - thank you! I'd just add that on a physical planet, physical death is necessary for physical life. Check out with scientists what would happen to vegetation, microbes, sea-life and all other forms of life, and the atmosphere, the water etc if there was no physical death! Human life would rapidly become impossible! If Adam and Eve had NOT sinned, perhaps humans could have gone on living in physical perfection but that's a metaphysical issue and has no bearing on the question.

Adam and Eve were invented in the mid to late bronze-age, and there has been life on earth for billions of years, so yes, lots of death before that fable!

It is a quite probable. Why?...Cause when God said ..."you will die if eating forbidden fruit"...It is suppossed that Adam and Eve knew what death was otherwise the commandment had been unjust for not understanding all up.
May be they knew death by seeing animals dying...for everlasting life God reserved only for human being.

Ciao by now.

I would have to say, "yes," given the mythology surrounding Adam's first wife, Lilith. Check out this website for the entire story. Very interesting stuff!

God told Adam and Eve to replenish the earth. In order to replenish the would have had to be life before.

No there was no death because there was no sin. But because Adam and Eve committed the first sin, the wages or penality of sin is death, which is passed on for all generations there after.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

there was life before Adam and eve, there was death before Adam and eve. there was earth before Adam and eve, there were plants and animals before Adam and eve.
we should not take words of gods as such or literally. the words of gods always got wisdom and most of time these references or stories are metaphors.
Adam and eve was the first "blessed couple" before them there were lot of humans existed on earth. yes they were first holy couple whom god selected. Adam was first human being with whom god talked and choose as its first prophet. he was not the first human being. it is logical to believe on it.
if you believes that Adam was first prophet of god, then prophets appears in masses, in order to fix their faults and in order to guide them in better way. is any logic that a prophet has only one human to serve and who also happens to his wife i.e eve ?
i believe that Adam and eve was the first selected pair from god, and Adam was first true messenger of god. not the first human being.
i hope this short explanation will help you in start thinking in right direction.
