I would definitely try to purchase your tickets in advance. Airlines such as AirAsia.com usually offer their cheapest fares for advance purchase. It's easy enough for you to check out the prices on their websites, try different dates on the flights you are considering and see for yourself! On many airlines the price won't vary too much. I think what you will find if you wait until you get here is the best flights(time-wise) will be sold out and you will find yourself traveling at 6:00AM or midnight because those are the least desired times, but they are often the cheapest flights. Other discount airlines within Thailand include NokAir, 1 2 Go, Phuket Airlines, Bangkok Airways. I think you will find (except fares to Koh Samui), that you will get very good prices if you buy in advance, and have the peace of mind that your travel arrangements have already been made. You definitely will not get cheaper fares on airlines such as AirAsia.com by waiting until you get here. Good luck and have a good trip.

Book there as its cheaper and gives you flexability.
Last time I was in Bangkok I went an agency to book a flight to Bali. The girl quoted me a reasonable price but I went off to check the other agencies. An hour later I went back to tell the girl that I would accept her offer as it was cheapest.
She checked again and told me I was lucky as it was now £15 cheaper. She didn't have to tell me that.
I bought a ticket for the next day. However I stayed up so late at a party that I slept in and I missed my 11am flight . I went back to the agency and the girl said 'No Problem' and booked me on a flight for the next day and no extra charge.
Is that good service or what?

http://www.airasia.com best to book in advance, the further in advance the better the deal you'll get. This is a ZERO frill airline, and expect to pay for the little things like a coke or even a napkin, but the trip is short and the price is right.
I just looked up the price for BKK to phuket next weekend roud trip and its about $65US round trip, taxxes included.
I use air asia all the time because it's a cheap way to get around SE asia.

When youre there is better and cheaper- we booked our flights to Koh Samui at Bangkok airport and it was really cheap- but the accommodation you should book before you go cos they rip you off with that at the airport!
Have a great time, Thailand is awesome x

Book in advance for weekends and holidays. Otherwise you can easily get tickets at the counter.

First ask how much it would be to add that on to your first ticket. It used to just be $100 more.
If it's more than $100, get the tickets there.
