The rule is if the reception is before 5, then no black. After 5 , then it's fine. But very few people follow this rule. I would brighten up the dress with a bright colored shawl or shoes, or other accessories. Just don't look like you are in morning :)
Also you could drape a large scarf around you for the ceremony. Just try to add some color and lightness back into your outfit.
Good luck

Wear a cropped jacket over the dress with classic pumps, take off the jacket and change your shoes for the reception. If the country club is more conservative, you can always throw the jacket back on till later in the evening.
Just to reassure you, Catholic weddings actually aren't that long-- less than an hour unless the bride wants extra things like a unity candle, more music, etc.

i does no longer positioned on a sundress, in basic terms with the aid of fact the reception is later interior the night. A sundress would be irrelevant for a marriage that semi-formal (I continuously assume a marriage is semi-formal, except reported in any different case) and lasting into the night hours. Your ultimate wager is to positioned on a cocktail gown, even however the reception is interior the afternoon. i've got been to wedding ceremony like this interior the previous and that i've got worn a cocktail gown and my boyfriend a in good shape. i spotted all the different visitors recent did a similar, they dressed for the greater formal part of the form, which grew to become into the reception that grew to become into to stick to. it somewhat is often ultimate to overdress than decrease than gown. i could advise a getting an extremely flattering little black gown and including some shade with jewerly or a headband.

Since you haven't time to change before the reception, dress as though you were getting ready for the reception. If the dress is too fancy (like really sparkly) or revealing, you might want to wear a jacket, blouse, or shawl over top.

Wear a coat over your dress for the service. If it long then no-one need know what you have on underneath so it won't matter if you don't get changed for the evening because all anyone will see is the coat. Of course if it is a summer wedding then it will be different.

I think the dress will be fine for both. If you want to change, you could always do so in between. But considering it's winter and the reception is formal, it sounds like your dress will be very appropriate. Have fun!

I'd wear the dress and for the wedding put a cute shrug, blazer, or bolero over it that's another color to lighten it up and make it look less formal and more church appropriate. You can always just take it off if everyone else at the church is dressed in evening wear.

Wear a jacket or shear shawl to the wedding and take it off for the reception.

I would say wear the dress but find a pretty bright scarf/shall to wear over it in the church to dress it down a little and to add some color. Many department stores would have soemthing like this.
