I am looking for a religion. I believe there is a god, just someone out there. But not everything I hear I believe. Like the whole Eve came from Adams rib, or whatever. Stuff like that. (And no, I have nothing to back that up, it just seems unrealistic. I just want something to believe in, to have a spiritual side. I believe people should live there life the way they themselves think is right and what is best for them. I want my kids to believe in something. I believe abortion that person’s choice, and that any person should be with any person they love, and should not be persecuted for it. I’ve heard so many things about Catholics that I don’t think is right, so they are defiantly out of the picture.

Stephanie,

No one here can tell you the answer to this. You believe there is a God. I suggest asking God to show you the way.

Ask yourself what religion most closely teaches the same teachings as Jesus?

Jesus said to love our God with our whole being, Love your neighbor as yourself, and to preach the word.(Matt 22:37 Mark 16:15 II Timothy 4:1-2)

This surprisingly eliminates Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, and Jews who don't teach to preach the word.

But seems to be in agreement with Matthew 7:14 - "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

That leaves us with Baptists, Pentecostals, Adventists, Jehovah Witnesses, and Mormons.

Mark 7:13 says not to mix evil traditions and ceremonies with the Creators. So we want to stay away from any thing that has been polluted with pagan beliefs.

The Worship of Mithros (Christmas), Day of the Dead (Halloween), The Spring Equinox of Ishtar (Easter), The Day Between Years (New years), Festival of Lights (St. Valentine's Day), The Feast of Brigid (the Pagan Trinity doctrine), Oimelc (ground hog day), Lughnasadh (Thanksgiving), ect....

What group is left over that does not participate in any of the above is the answer.

I pray that you do not take offense to this. To offend is not my objective here. People seem to want to be spiritual without any responsibility. If we live our lives the way we think is right, then we are negating there is a God. Being "religious" is not the point I am trying to make. Having a personal relationship with God is the point. When you say you want your kids to believe in something, I hope and pray that it is the one true living God. Actually we believe in something. Either we believe there is no god or we believe in God. We are born with the desire to worship. Whatever is the most important thing in our life we will worship. You have something to believe in - you believe that abortion is a person's choice. So your question should be, I want the right things to believe in. Like I said before, do not take me wrong, offending you is far from my mind, but you said you wanted something to believe in- I am telling you, you already have a belief system, unfortunately it is not in the Christ who died for you, Think about it!!

If you're really interested in discovering what you truly believe, you need to start out on a soul-searching journey of your own.

I'd recommend fully reading the Holy Books of any religion you consider. I'd also recommend fully reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Preferably after the Holy Books, as he assumes you have read them and are familiar with them.

Sounds like you are on the road to truth. Why don't you pray to God and ask Him what is the truth and why you are on this planet?

I did this and He revealed to me His son, Jesus Christ. I call myself a Christian because I repent of my sins against Him and trust in His son to save me.

God knows your heart and He knows whether you are really serious about knowing the truth. Jesus says this "I am the way, the truth, and the life. Nobody comes to the Father but by me." - John 14:6. Once you experience this than you will know the truth as well. But you will not know truth until you experience this. To know about God you must read the Bible. Start with the book of John in the New Testament. If you are a true seeker, God will reveal himself through His Word. The Bible is God speaking to you, but only if you have an open and contrite heart.

God Bless You in your journey.

How about the Episcopal Church? It has been said that, no matter what you believe, there is at least one other Episcopalian out there who believes the exact same thing that you do... There are both conservatives and liberals in the church and, with a few exceptions, they get along swimmingly. You can find a church that is highly liturgical, with choral anthems, vergers, acolytes, and you can also find churches that are more like evangelical congregations, with praise and worship bands. There is a LOT of variety.

Amen. "Spirituality" shouldn't require that you "believe" in ridiculous nonsense, interpret obvious fables as literal history, persecute legitimate scholars for considering actual evidence, and all the rest of the typical Christian programme of institutionalized ignorance.

It's true that spirituality is "trans-rational," and that "God" cannot be apprehended by so feeble an instrument as the human intellect - but that doesn't mean that we ought to therefore reduce ourselves to the level of idiots intellectually in order to be spiritual! "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God what is God's" - and leave science to scientists, and history to historians, and worry about your OWN spiritual progress, and don't imagine that it hinges on making yourself an imbecile!

I'd look into some form of Gnosticism - and there are Gnostic interpretations of Christianity. "Gnosis" is translated as "knowledge," but it actually means "experience" - direct spiritual experience, with no need for a religious bureaucracy. "It is not enough to be a Christian - you must become a Christ." "Faith" is for people who take everything at second hand - gnosis is for people who find out for themselves.

Sounds like you might benefit from the wiccan rede: An it harm none, do what ye will. I am a wiccan myself, we don't tend to indoctrinate or convert people so it's sometimes hard to find out about us. You seem like someone who might appreciate it and I have a feeling you would fit right in. Check out the site for more information

There are so many religions out there and so many of them are so confusing, you might want to read up on either something like peganism or budism, they are both very peaceful religions that follow a higher power.... I hope this helps

Your not looking for a religion. You call ancient Biblical stories unrealistic, well, look at your own plight. You want your kids to believe in something? How big of you. Get serious.
