How many cigs did you smoke per day?
For how many years?
How many times did it take until you were successful?
Did you use any "exercises" to resist temptation (mental & physical)?
How long has it been since you quit?
Please tell me your success story...it would really help me out!
Thank you!

I smoked a pack a day for 18 years.
Quit cold turkey but with a plan
(Those logenzes and patches are expensive. I told my husband it's to expensive to quit!!)
You have to be ready and it has to be your choice.
I typed a page up that said nothing but "my quit date is Jan1 2005" over and over again.
I also typed up a list of stuff to do when a craving struck.
pray, read, run up and down the steps, (if raining) take a walk (if nice outside.) type "I will not smoke" over and over again till it passed"
Whatever you can think of.
I told my family to bear with me b/c I would be a Bl+ch for a while, so they knew what to expect and could support me.
Then at Midnight Dec 31, 2004, I smoked my last cig and threw the rest down a sewer outside.
It helped to take a nap in the afternoons too b/c it takes your body some time to adjust and it's working hard repairing itself.
The most important thing though is YOU HAVE TO BE READY TO DO IT---NO ONE ELSE CAN FORCE YOU IF YOU'RE NOT!!
Good Luck

I smoked about half a pack a day for 16 years. I quit about 3 times before I did it. The first three days were horrible. I drank a lot of water and took my kids to the park a lot. It will be 6 years ago in April that I quit smoking. I am so glad that I did it, I do miss it but I am glad that I don't do it. Look at how much money you are spending. When I get a cold, it is not as bad or last as long as it use to. The biggest thing is being in the right mind set. I did not use the patch, gum etc. I did gain some weight. Good luck, in the long run you will be glad that you quit.

I'm sorry if this is long, but I'm very proud of the fact that I have been smoke free for 1 year and 4 months as of tomorrow. I smoked over half a pack of cigarettes a day for over 16 years - sometimes more sometimes less. I 'quit' all the time ,,, I'd quit for a weekend,,,, for a few months ,,, but I'd always start back up again. I knew I was going to have to quit so I started looking for advice on the internet and came across the Smoking Cessation topic at About.com. The information there made me realize that quitting smoking was the best thing I could ever do for myself. There is so much information there that helped me make my plan to quit and the people in the forum there gave me the support I needed to get me through any crisis smoke-free. If you are thinking about quitting I hope you will check out this website. If you'd like any other information about my quit please feel free to email me gemini_tam@yahoo.com. Good Luck !

I can only tell you how it worked for my best friend. She smoked a pack+ a day for about 17 years. For a long time she had been up to 2 packs. Those recent graphic anti-smoking commercials really started to get to her so she decided to quit. She first read The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Alan Carr to get her in the quitting mood. Then she used the patch religiously and bought tea tree flavored tooth picks to chew on. The first week or two was the worst and she was a raging crazy *****. She drinks a lot of water and does a lot of walking for exercise but that was something she did before she quit anyway. She only used 2 boxes of patches but she stuck with the tooth picks for another month or two. Any time she thought about smoking she pictured rotting lungs, emphysema and death.

It was her first honest attempt to quit. She probably gained about 10 pounds but shes always had a weight/food problem anyway. It's been about 4 months for her now and she no longer feels the need to smoke and she finds it repulsive.

15-20 per day

21 years from 1984 - 2005

half heartedly dozen times I tried.

Finally just refused to give in and smoke again no patches no therapy just cold turkey and the determination I will not be beat.
All I had to do was not ever put a cigarette to my mouth. Simple.

Quit since June 15th 2005 and not touched one since. So over 18 months and do not even care about cigarettes.

Quitting seemed hard at first but looking back it was far easier than I thought and within 3 months I felt free of addiction and cravings.
I should of done it years before.

I quit Nov 14th 2005. So it's been almost 14 months!!!
I was smoking a pack a day. I heard about laser therapy and thought I'd check it out. I wanted to quit. The laser therapy helped take away the physical symptoms of the withdraw, and i just needed the will power or the mind set. It cost me $140.00but i didn't care because after two weeks of not smoking i got my money's worth! The rest is history. I haven't had a smoke since!

About 60 cigs a day, from the time I was 15, so about 4 years. One fine day, I got up and went cold turkey.
You can chew gum, eat food, walk, exercise, ANYTHING to keep you busy and to tame the craving.
It's been almost three years since I quit (but i had one cigarette about a year ago, coz I couldn't help it). Of course after that I felt miserable, and haven't touched one since. And I can proudly say, I can sit in the company of a smoker (if needed) and not feel like it!

My friend, make up your mind, keep confident, and don't give in!! If you need to talk, mail me at my ID @yahoo.com

GoodLuck honey!

I got fed up with the way my clothes smelled and the awful taste it smoking left in my mouth. I went cold turkey...took up running in place of smoking. my lungs like that much better. I smoked 1-2 packs a day for 15 years.. All that was 25 years ago.. I'm still running and I do not miss smoking.
