It couldn't walk right. Its legs started to spasm and jerk at different angles. It lasted about 2 minutes. After it calmed down, it walked normally again. Any ideas on what happened?

Your girlfriends cat has been a senior citizen since since was 7 years old. It's very important that you convince her that she take her cat to the vet to do a complete geriatric profile. The blood test will check over 30 different values and will find the cause of her seizure. Lots of different thing can cause seizures in geriatric cats. Most commonly uncontrolled Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes or Hypertention can all lead to seizures and potentially death in cats. Please encourage your gf to do the right thing. Good luck.

Sounds like a seizure for some reason. It might be the first one or the first one you've seen. There are different causes for seizures, some treatable, some not. Chances are that a vet check may be able to determine the cause, but unless a seizure happens in his presence, it may remain a mystery.
Was there any additional stress at the moment or was everything as usual? Since this is right after the holidays, one thing that comes to mind, are the toxic plants used to decorate. Sometimes the berries of holly and misletoe start to drop off and can be hazardous, as well as poinsettia parts. If this is the case, a short seizure is getting off easy. Any stuff like that needs to be tossed out. Also, a little crumb of chocolate could be suspect, any bits of that sort of stuff that could bestill lying around? If so get it taken care of before real trouble begins. Good luck.

I had a cat several years ago that did sort of the same thing when she was 16. Unfortunately, I found out she had a brain tumor... Get it to a vet, but 16 is really old for a cat. It's tough.

Sounds like a seizure to me, the cat is getting old and is most likely developing health problems, perhaps it has developed something wrong with it's brain. Please take the cat to a vet and have it checked out. It could be a serious issue that should not be ignored.
