Actually, the best way to kill fleas on any pet is by using a QUALITY flea repellent, not something you can buy at Walmart or the grocery store.
FRONTLINE and ADVANTAGE are two of the best flea killers on the market AND are the safest to use.
Since they are applied to the back between the shoulder blades they shouldn't pose a health problem. Your adult cat should not get sick when this repellent is applied properly. Just make sure you get the one for cats and not for dogs.
And even though you use this flea repellent, you will always have fleas in your home, feeding, breeding and populating.
They are most certainly in the places where the cats sleep and spend much of their time. So you will need to do something about the flea infestation you have.
The best and safest way to rid your home of fleas is to have all of your carpeting STEAM cleaned. Then you will need to vaccum the carpeting EVERY DAY for about 7 to 10 days, making sure to get under any beds and furniture. This technique works extremely well (I know, because I've tried it in my home and in several other of my families homes with very severe infestations) and is completely safe for the cats AND you.
Having an exterminator come in to treat your home with chemicals, and even the flea bombs you can buy at the store, are extremely toxic means of extermination causing permanent health problems for you and the animals. And these treatments really dont work as well as they claim.
By the way, I realize your best intentions were made when bathing your kitten, but kittens before the age of 8 months should never be bathed.
Fleas are certainly a major pest. I hope these suggestions will help you with your problem. Good luck!

I have 6 cats (that right, 6!! yes I am a crazy cat person!!) It is a guarantee that with this many cats I will get fleas-but not any more! I have started using a product called Advantage (got it recommended from my vet) This stuff is incredible!! It kills fleas on contact, lasts for several weeks, comes in several forms (shampoo, drops, and vials for the back of the neck) It also comes with a guarantee (or so my vet has claimed) The trick is to use it regularly, but is good to kill your flea problem too! Also use a house spray on all surfaces that the cats sit/sleep/ walk on (this is a MUST!!) because fleas jump/fall off all over the house, and then onto something else..then reproduce like, well, fleas!! The house spray I use is called Premise2000-works wonders as well!! The only downfall to all this is the cost of the products(but true pet-lovers pay any price!) and that you need to take your pets to the vet before being able to purchase the Advantage products. Hope this will help your flea problem.

I've used the drops on all my family's cats for like the last 10 years and we've never had a cat get sick. Either you gave the older cat too big a dose (the doses are by weight), or you put the drops on where the cat could lick it up. We don't use it quite every month, maybe more like every month and a half, and only in the warmer months. It works really well, way better than any "natural" remedies. Your cat will be healthier if you just kill the fleas and get the problem solved, than if you keep trying a bunch of silly things that don't work.

Fleas are hard to get rid of. Just bathing the cats won't work. It only chases them off the cat and into the carpet/ furniture yard etc. They come right back when it's safe. They also lay eggs everywhere and just a shampoo won't do the job.
Here's what you do. Schedule a flea bath for all of your animals. On that same day schedule Orkin or somebody to come in and do the whole house and yard while you're out. This is just about the only way to get rid of them completely. After that DO NOT let your cat's outside. They'll just pick them right back up and within a week you're right back where you started.

Put a couple of ordinary Moth Balls in your vacuum’s dust bag and vacuum as usual, (and I assume you’ll include anywhere the cats like to nap). The vacuum will pick up the fleas in its path and the hundreds of eggs they lay in the carpet, on the sofa, fabric chairs, bed and even hard flat surfaces where cats sometimes go to be alone like cupboards.
The Moth Balls will kill the fleas and destroy their eggs and the chemical from the balls are safely contained away from your pets. Empty your dust bag when you usually do and add new balls, two balls are sufficient to create an environment in the bag to suffocate any insect, but especially fleas and their eggs.
P.S. Never put flea powder or spray on a kitten it sickens them and can kill them.

you take the flea comb and get a cup of hot water. Comb the cats and get them off that way put them in the hot water it kills them. Then go to a pet store and get the light kit that you plug in to the wall with a stick glue strip and at night the fleas go to the light and the die. Plus you can get the carpet stuff and spray on and vacuum up. I know I did all this when we got our kitten I think he had a thousand or more on him. But after doing all this we have no problem with them. I also put the stuff on my yard to keep fleas and ticks out of it. that way it does not get on me to come in the house again. Good Luck hope I helped you out.

Whos to say he did? Maybe the devil made them? Perhaps they are just here to test our faith. Or perhaps we are supposed to conquer and teach Christianity to the wasps and flees and ticks. Does anyone have a real answer on anything to do with orgins or purpose?
