there is a sense of animal satisfaction to be had just from knowing you COULD eat the cake, if you wanted to. you have the power.
plus it's good to deny yourself things you really want. it makes you strong, so that when someone tells you you can't have something, you're prepared.
finally, the more time you wait for something good, the better it feels when you get it.

I think you are referring to the term "having your cake and eating it, too" What it actually means is you can't keep something whole and consume a part of it. So, to break it down, it means you can't have something both ways.

If you are feeling perticuraly fat and guilty for eating that day you can put it in a bowl, mash it up, and throw it away. it is quit theriputic.
