My son's dr told me to break my son from the bottle was to give him applesauce. Anytime he'd want something to drink give it to him in a sippy cup, but if he refused - give the applesauce instead. It took 3 days at most and he never asked for a bottle again. It's been over a yr now. She said the applesause was to keep him hydrated... it worked day and night for me. If you should decide to try it,. then I hope it works for you too!!

If you haven't yet, change the night time bottle to water. It's bad on the teeth to have milk or juice overnight. Then a sippy cup with a bottle like opening might be a good transition. Going to bed with a sippy cup of water won't be too bad. My 10 year old daughter still keeps a water bottle by her bed for when she's thirsty at night so she doesn't have to get up and go to the bathroom or kitchen in the night.

I didn't take my now 5 year old off a bottle until he was 2 1/2 years old. Why did i wait so late? because I don't really listen to society saying a baby has to be off bottles when they reach the age of 1.
Some say it will cause tooth decay if they stay on the bottle a long time. My son has never had tooth decay or any cavities and his dentist says his teeth are in perfect health. So I'm trying to say wait a little longer and she will lose interest in a bottle anyway. When I did finally took my son off, we celebrated by having a going away bottle party and he was old enough to understand he didn't need his bottle anymore and that he was a big boy.

I hope if you are putting her down with a bottle that is only has water in it first off. We broke my son from the bottle by giving him water in the bottle and milk in a sippy cup. He always went for the cup. Don't think that would work in your case though. We broke him from the paci by cutting off the tip and telling him it was broken. We "broke" all the pacis in the house that we could find and stuck to it. He eventually stopped asking and didn't want anything to do with the "broken" ones either. Not sure how you could "break" a bottle. What about buying a nipple that has small holes (like an infant one) that makes it harder for her to get what she wants? Harder than say it would from a sippy cup??? Good luck!!

My son just turned 1 and he is completely bottle broke. We had a horrible time with this. You just have to bite your nails and go with it. My son would scream at night until he got his bottle. But having a bottle past a certain age isnt good for there teeth. So i would suggest takin the bottle away permantly. She will probably scream for awhile but it is just something you will have to deal with. It will get better as time goes on i promise. It only took my son a couple of days to get used the idea that he wasnt goin to get a bottle. Hope this helps! Good Luck.

You are probably just going to have to bite the bullet on this one and just take it away. It won't be pretty but sometimes it's the only solution. Once they reach the toddler stages they are much more set in their ways and it's difficult to break old habits. Just have her "send the bottles in the mail to the babies that need them" and then throw them away. When she cries or asks for it remind her that she sent them to the babies and offer her a big girl cup or nothing. She'll move on soon enough :)
Good luck :)

Just take the bottles, and put them in a bag, and throw them out!! thats horrible for your childs teeth. You're the boss, and she should have been off bottles long ago. Give them to goodwill, and get ready for the fun task of the toddler bed!

i would not be to concerend, our 3 year old still likes to drink 5-6 cups of warm milk a day, and even though she still calls it her bottle it is in one of those cups from walmart that have the soft spout.

I used a sippy cup that i bought at wal-mart called NUBY. They cost $1.50 and they have a soft nipple like spout. It worked for my 2 kids and my friends daughter.
