When you deprive your body of food and calories in order to loose weight you will end up losing muscle mass as well as fat.
then.......
After you have grown tired of a crash diet and began eating normally weight often goes back on as fat.
Which makes you want to have a crash diet to lose the fat.......

It depends on one's own approach to weight mnagement without any inhibitions one gets the desired result /not.
