I just answered another question slightly similar to this, so I'm pasting a large section of my answer here
2nd Peter chapter 3 verses 3 to 4 says in the last days people will make fun of Christians saying "He promised to come didn't he? Where is he? Our ancestors have already died but nothing has changed since the beginning of the world"
2nd Thesselonians chapter 2 verses 1 to 12 says there will be a great falling away from the Faith, or a final rebellion. After this the one called Antichrist will appear, preaching peace. Antichrist can mean "against Christ" or "in place of Christ" The rapture will not have happened at this time and TRUE Christians will see him for what he is. But he will label us as terrorists, saying we are rejecting the world peace he brings. You will understand why when you finish reading this.
Matthew chapter 24 gives the whole timeline for the end of the world. In the same chapter Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple, that has happened. Next he predicted an increase in earthquakes and wars, they are happening right now. But Jesus went on to say these happenings are only the beginning of the end.
Next Jesus spoke of people losing their faith, this is the final rebellion mentioned above. (I am telling you the reason for this is because people will get tired of waiting for the rapture, forgetting God acts at His own time. Jesus says He is coming like a thief, when even His own people least expect it. Beware of anyone who tells you the rapture is on a certain day!)
Then the Antichrist will come. In the chaos of the surrounding world he will comfort people, uniting them. He will probably even bring peace between Israel and Pakistan, this seemingly impossible task will win him favour with the whole world. They would gladly accept his mark, which I suspect will be a microchip implant (Just my opinion). How would you feel if some people refused to be electronically tagged when the rest of the world gladly allowed it, you would think they were terrorists or they had something to hide.
I cannot explain why the mark is so evil that no one having it will enter heaven, but I think the only people without it will be those who will hold on to Jesus till the end. I hope this helps!
Please consider becoming Christian, it is the only way into heaven. I won't lie to you; it won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

I don't consider myself "born again" but I have been a Christian since twelve years of age, and according to the Christian Holy Book, the Bible, there is no set date that the world will end. It will not happen quickly, either. A figure will rise up and join the world together for one week (a Biblical week equals around seven years). This figure will be what we commonly refer to as the AntiChrist. There will be many trials and tribulations, and Jesus will come to take his followers to heaven. The people who are left behind will, of course, have the chance to convert, and they don't, they will most likely die during the dangerous period. Those who do convert and then die will join Jesus and the others in heaven, and whoever makes it to the end will see Jesus come back to Earth again and end everything. But don't look for this happening suddenly, or even soon. It could happen anytime, though. Consult the last book, Revelation, if you want to know anymore about what the Bible says about it.

Those who claim to know when the world will end or even venture to make guesses are claiming to know more than Jesus himself. And remember Jesus is God incarnate.
The whole mess of predicting the end of the world is rooted in the humanities wanting to control things. The Bible makes no prediction of when and Revelations is not about the end of the world; it is about how to keep the faith when your world is falling apart. If it had been about Jesus returning in say two thousand years would it not have been very cold comfort to those it was written too at the time. Those who were suffering persecution under Rome? Another point to remember all of Revelations was written in a code to prevent the author from being identified and served up as lion chow. It is rooted in apocalyptic, Jewish, and first century thoughts. I believe that twenty-first century folks are not able to fully understand or grasp what the author is trying to say.
There are some references to the end times in Matthew and Luke by Jesus. They are vague and refer more to circumstances than times.

Jesus said when you are born of flesh you are FLESH. And when you are born of spirit, you are SPIRIT!
I go along with the thinking that 2012 will be the shift of the earths axis. Isaiah 24, and the 6th Seal in Revelation.
It is not the end of the world. But it will create a chain reaction on a spiritual level. And we will see things we don't want to see!

We dont know when it will happen and although many christians say its coming, they dont know because the coming back date of Jesus is not set in stonee, many have said its a certain date but that date has come and gone with nothing, so really that bit is just people making guesses, but we honestly dont know
2 Peter 3:10 - "The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night."
as for what will happen, their is many speculations but below it says all will be judged, those who are in the book of life ( those who have given their lives to Jesus) will be rewarded those who have not will be thrown into hell.
Acts 17:30,31 - God appointed the day of judgment and gave assurance by raising Jesus from the dead. Just as surely as Jesus arose, just that surely we will be judged.
As for your friend speaking funny, im assuming your meaning he was baptized ( you dont have to baptized to become a born again Christian you just have to give your life to God) and is can speak in tongues which is considered a heavenly language.
hope this helps

Mat 24:36 ¶ But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

No one knows the day, hour or minute that God will come and collect his people from this earth. When that time comes the world will end and there will be a new heaven and earth.

The world is not going to be destroyed. After the war of Armaggedon and the 1000 year reign of Christ, it's going to be rejuvenated to it's original perfection as in Adam & Eve before the fall.

No one know when the end shall be, but God wants us who believe and obey Him to be prepared and be ready for Him. Praise the Lord!!
