I've been on the 'net for a few mintues, and I noticed a lot of garbage written about Mormons. Have you REALLY done the research? What is so bad about them that you have to openly talk trash about what they believe?

First of all, the majority of people who write things about Mormons are not Mormon "haters". I do agree, however, with you that many people could use more social graces when discussing the topic.

Second of all, any time anyone writes something that doens't agree with the LDS religion, they immediately scream "mormon hater!" and "mormon basher!" Just because we disagree, doesn't mean we hate Mormons. I actually consider myself to be a mormon lover. I was Mormon for 18 years. My entire dad's side of the family (back to the pioneers) are/were Mormons.

YES, I have done my research--quite thoroughly, thank you. You assume that since I say things against the LDS church it means that I'm using material from "anti-mormon" websites and "anti-mormon" books.

The truth of the matter is, all the "anti-mormon" material I use is directly from the Book of Mormon and the Journal of Discourses--a book comprised of all the talks/speaches by LDS prophets since Joseph Smith. (produced by the LDS church.)

I'll give you some examples. (Please go to www.journalofdiscourses.com to research what I'm going to say. You can do a find for the exact phrases I give you to read them.)

1. Journal of Discourses (JD) vol 1, pg 50 - Brigham Young taught that Adam is "our father and our God" and "the only God with whom we have to do."

2. JD vol 1, pg 50 - B. Young said, "Now remember from this time forth, and forever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost."

3. JD 1: 346, I don't have a direct quote, but B. Young talks about how Christ's crucifixion was based upon polygamy and he was persecuted because of it.

JD vol 2: pg 210, along with that, B. young taught that "Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives and he begat children." (Please note how Jesus was invited to this wedding in John 2: 1-2)

4. JD. vol 3, pg 247, "any man or woman who violates the covenants made with their God will never wipe that out, your own blood must atone for it.

JD vol 4: 219-20, "He cannot attain it [heaven] without the shedding of his blood, and also knows that by having his blood shed he will atone for that sin, and be saved and exalted with the GodS." (referring about adultry...and, yes, that is GodS plural)

5. JD vol 2, pg 171 "But He [god] did send his angel to this same obscure person, J.S. jun, who afterwards became a prophet, seer, and revelator, and informed him that he should not join any of the the religious sects of the day, for they were all wrong." (I thought God appeared to J. Smith and told him that?)

Jd vol 18, pg 239, "Do we believe that the Lord sent his messengers to J. Smith and commanded him to refrain from joining any christian church... yes, this is all correct."

6. JD vol 10, pg 110
Marrying an african "under the law of God is death on the spot. This will always be so."

7. Jesus only crucified for the original sins--not for you or me.
JD vol 13, 143
"we must believe that this same Jesus was crucified for the sins of the world, that is for the original sin, not the actual individual transgressions of the people."

So, I guess the bigger question is: have you done your research?

Because Mormons are different. Because they believe God still talks to man and still calls prophets like he did in the Bible to teach and guide His people. Along those lines, they believe that there is additional scripture (which, if you believe God can talk to man, then why not?). They believe that when Jesus tells us to become perfect He was speaking literallly (although they do believe it can only be done through the atonement of Jesus Christ). Many think that Mormons worship Joseph Smith, which I know is not true, he was a man, albeit an important man, but I do understand their main focus in on the Savior, Jesus Christ and recognize that only through Him can mankind be saved. They don't believe in the Trinity, as was made doctrine by the Catholics in 325 AD (although before that many thought they were seperate - both side can find support in the Bible). They don't drink or smoke and are suppose to have a healthy diet...bad, bad, bad, at least according to our society. They value modesty, which is also looked down upon in our society.

I could go on, but these are a lot of why they are hated, and because they want to share what they feel is so important with the world (they take literally the fact we are all brothers and sisters and should look out for each other and respect all people). Bottom line is, it doesn't jive with what they've been taught and therefore threatens their religion.

People don't like any religion that disagrees with there own. I don't care for any at all. I think your dogma has more flaws in it than some of the other religions or at least a few historical facts that raise an eyebrow.

That being said I do, for the most part, like most of the Mormons I know. You people are doing something right.

I agree with Jim B
I have aunts and uncles and a grandmother who all were Mormons and their beliefs are so contrary to the Bible that I never understood how they could believe all the junk Joseph Smith said happened....they are good people but as for what they believe they are not Christians because they add to the True Word of God...they are deceived as far as I'm concerned

I don't "hate" Mormons, but I'm suspicious of them.

But don't feel too special, I am suspicious of all religions.

Mormons, in particular, bother me because a "prophet" claimed to have read about what God wants.

Now, I don't have an issue with the claim that God put some people on North America. Really, Mormonism fills in some blatant gaps left behind by European Christians.

But, anyone who claims to know God's will and that we can only learn that will through him instead of God raises my suspicions. This goes for Muslim clerics, Baptist preachers, and the Pope, too.

Mormons are good people. Their missionaries work just the same as the salvation army and other religions who believe in evangelizing. Jim B has most, if not all, of thier more challenging beliefs correct.

Mostly, people hate any religion that is not their own... end of story.

They all pick each other apart. So, ignore the mean ones and converse with those who are willing to give information rather than bigotry.

Well, not a trash talker, I grew up Mormon. I think they are very nice people, but I don't believe the religion.

Satan. plain and simple.
Since the beginning of time, Adam and Eve were taught the true gospel, the same gospel the Mormons believe in. Satan tried to tempt them to do wrong and to fall away from the Lord's correct teachings and has been trying to get others to be led away from the gospel ever since. He is miserable and does not want us to return to live with our Heavenly Father as he never will.
It's Satan in his own little or big ways causing doubts, fear, misconceptions and hatred against the church.
That's my belief.

I don't hate Mormons, I just don't understand them. And I like women who dress provocatively. Aren't Mormons the ones who dress in ankle-lenght skirts?

for my section, maximum individuals do not hate mormons. They disagree with them. i think of the episode of south park on mormons describes it admirably. Mormons are, as an entire, stable admirable people who have faith some kooky stuff. yet another situation is that mormons beg to be held to a greater time-honored. words like "the only actual church", "you have lots of the certainty, we've all of it" (patronizing) and "a chosen human beings" have a tendency to annoy human beings. The doctrine is that others could be baptized into your church with the intention to get into heaven (in temples). once you're saying issues like that, you greater efficient have some particularly stable back up. The historicity of the e book of Mormon is doubtful. Joseph Smith replaced into in touch in polygamy with the two married females and youthful toddlers, and he lied approximately it. those are 2 of many things that make the area look tough. some (minority) mormons would be particularly pushy approximately accepting LDS doctrine, and that have can negate various beneficial stories. maximum mormons i comprehend are very easy. i might vote for Romney over Huckabee or McCain in a heart beat. I easily have some very stable acquaintances who're Mormon, and that they are easy intense-high quality human beings. I merely think of they're incorrect. I element many mormon behaviours are large, and could be observed. i think of the mormon faith is demonstratably fake. i don't vow your downfall, I anticipate a leveling off per modern traits. Stake enhance rates have averaged decrease than a million% for the final 7 years (making use of convention information). i don't foresee hellish suffering, yet I additionally do not foresee front-of-the-line priveleges for mormons in heaven. i'm going to proceed to savour being with mormons, because of the fact i like them. many human beings have faith wierd issues, I nevertheless like them. do merely not say if i don't accept as true with you i can not carry on with God in the afterlife. It gets previous
