Trying to use Hell to frighten people who don't believe in Hell is a pretty stupid tactic, don't you think?

Pascal's wager:
"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"
This is, of course, false.
Some of the problems with the argument:
* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)
* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell
* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else
* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.
* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (somebody mentioned just today praying several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.

Because our judgments of others are not always correct wouldn't it be safe to say that your judgments of your beliefs may not be correct? You have a strength in your belief, that I see goes not further than your ability to get up and walk! Being a believer would mean that you believe in the whole truth and nothing but the truth! Because you do not have full faith in your own belief how could you possibly think that anyone would want to share a seat with you?
I'm certain that your need to get a rise out of non-believers is just your way of having a 'Wee bit o' Fun' but it only gives us a more secure foot hold.
One more reason to 'Not Believe'. Be proud of who you are! Be strong in your waivering faith and be secure in your, almost, always being a believer!
Hmm, give me a good Atheist any day of the week!

i do not locate it rude in any respect. i imagine of it as an significant protection hostile to an unacceptable bridging of church and state. A nativity scene on demonstrate in a public authorities construction?!??! i imagine of the FFRF's signal as a state subsidized disclaimer, effectively declaring, "we are allowing this nativity scene to be displayed yet in no way will we approve of the concept any non secular idea is quite valid than the different, or that non secular concepts are of fee to any yet those who carry them."

Amazing isn't it? Why,oh,why, do so many people give this" just
in case" argument? Makes me wonder if it is their reason for believing. If so, will not this hell place e crammed with all the hypocrites who only claim to believe so they won't end up there? At least atheists are not lying to themselves or to God!

And I suppose you want me to believe in your religion?
If I did believe in your religion, then I would not be an Atheist now would I? If I were to believe in hell, I dont feel I have done anything that bad that would warrent me going to hell. But since we all just become worm food when we die, I am not worried about it. And I suppose you feel quite rightous about yourself asking this question.

I am sure it would be and yes, they should start believing now. However, if you want to try to convert them I suggest you try a more Christian attitude and a lot less preaching. Having been an agnostic converted to Christianity all the preaching of damnation and peddling of fire insurance would never have converted me. What did was seeing God's love shown to me by classmates at my university who were believers and realising that in that love was the answer to the void that was at the core of my life.

It would seem so but (first) they must BELIEVE in GOD. Withour belief they will never get to "second base". Reading and studying with others is their best opportunity to have a solid foundation, but as I said they must be able to welcome at least the possibility of GOD's existance before anything else will happen. Have a great day!

Methinks you should read up on Pascal's Wager, which is essentially the argument you are presenting here, and find out why it's a crappy argument for belief.
Believing "just in case" isn't rational.

It will be a rude awakening for all who end up there. The decision is final though.
